AAP leader Manish Sisodia in his resignation letter said that it is unfortunate that despite working with honesty and truthfulness continuously for eight years, corruption charges are being levelled
A Delhi court on Tuesday granted bail to five accused in a corruption case related to the Delhi government's now-scrapped new excise policy. Special Judge M K Nagpal, who on Monday sent former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to CBI custody, granted relief to five accused noticing that the agency took a conscious decision not to arrest them. The five accused, including two former excise department officials Kuldeep Singh and Narender Singh and businessman Sameer Mahendru, were earlier granted interim bail by the court after they appeared before the judge in pursuance to the summons issued to them. The court also granted bail to Gautam Mootha and Arun Pillai. "During the period of investigation, sufficient time and opportunity were available to the IO (investigating officer) of the case to arrest all the applicants or any of them. But the IO had taken a conscious decision not to arrest any of the applicants and had charge-sheeted them before this court without arrest," the
The Congress on Tuesday said AAP leader Manish Sisodia has been arrested in an "open and shut case of corruption" and that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should also be arrested for his alleged involvement in the excise policy case. The two leaders are "deeply involved in corruption" and should be dealt with accordingly, Congress leader Ajay Maken said. Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy for 2021-22. "This is an open and shut case of corruption and a big scam has taken place in Delhi, and it should be viewed accordingly," Maken said. He said Kejriwal should also be arrested in the case. "It has now been established in one of the charge sheets and one of the accused liquor barons has said he was made to speak to Kejriwal on Facetime," he added. The Kejriwal government had set up a committee to recommend changes in the ex
Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain on Tuesday resigned from the Cabinet, amid corruption allegations against them. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has accepted their resignations, officials said. Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on Sunday evening in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped liquor policy for 2021-22. Jain is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in a money laundering case.
It is too early to talk about a possible replacement for Manish Sisodia in the cabinet, Delhi government sources said on Monday, a day after the deputy chief minister was arrested by the CBI in the excise policy scam case. While there is no doubt that Sisodia will continue to be a minister like his cabinet colleague Satyendar Jain, who is in jail over money laundering charges, his departments will be distributed among others, they said. There are speculations that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal may take over some of the key portfolios currently held by his deputy. Sisodia holds 18 of the 33 departments of Delhi governments, including key portfolios such as education, finance and public works department (PWD). His workload increased after Satyendar Jain was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in May last year. Sisodia was handed over Jain's portfolios such as health, industries, power, home, urban development, irrigation and flood control, and water. The BJP has demanded that C
"If I will spend a few months in jail, I don't care. We are followers of Bhagat Singh. He (Bhagat Singh) even chose to be hanged," Sisodia tweeted

With the MCD House being adjourned for the day on Thursday amid ruckus over the standing committee election, the AAP accused the BJP of resorting to hooliganism as it was unable to digest its defeat in the MCD mayoral polls. Several members of both the parties exchanged blows and hurled plastic bottles at each other in the chamber of the MCD House on Wednesday night. The chaos continued on Thursday morning forcing Mayor Shelly Oberoi to adjourn the House till 10 am on Friday. While the BJP is protesting against the mayor's decision to allow members to carry mobile phones to the booth area during the election of the MCD panel, the AAP said there is no ban on mobile phones while casting vote. Addressing a press conference at the civic centre, Oberoi alleged that some BJP councillors threw the ballot box and tore ballot papers during the election for the standing committee. "It's shameful what the BJP councillors did. The ballot box was thrown, ballot papers were torn and I was attack

The House met at 8.30 am on Thursday but was adjourned for an hour amid sloganeering. The House reconvened at 9.30 am but was adjourned till 10 am on Friday shortly afterwards. As the voting for MCD standing committee carried on till late Wednesday night amid adjournments, BJP accused AAP members of obstructing the election process and also of cross voting in the election for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor which underwent earlier in the day. The AAP rubbished the claim saying the question doesn't arise and what matters is that AAP won both those posts. Delhi BJP Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor claimed Aam Aadmi Party councillors "openly cross voted" in mayor and deputy mayor elections earlier in the day. "There were 150 votes of AAP while two independents and one Congress Councillors openly announced their support to AAP taking their tally to 153 but party mayoral candidate Shelly Oberoi got just 150 votes. "While BJP which had 113 votes got 116 votes in mayor election clearly showing three Aam Aadmi Party councillors voted for BJP today," Kapoor claimed. He also alleged that AAP never had the intention to let election for the Standing Committee

Delhi Metro will start handing over its fleet of 100 feeder e-buses to the city government from April, a senior official said on Tuesday. At present, these e-buses are running on six routes in the city. "The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will handover all the buses to the Delhi government from April 2023 onwards," the DMRC official told PTI. These 100 e-buses are the first fleet of electric buses deployed by Delhi Metro in the city, he said. Feeder buses are services to provide last-mile connectivity, and even DMRC smart cards are accepted for payment of fare charges. DMRC officials had in July last year said that running Delhi Metro feeder buses in inner areas was less viable due to under utilisation. Plan was that DMRC feeders buses would be taken up by the Delhi government's transport department for operations, they had said. Late December last year, officials had said that the Delhi government would soon take over the DMRC's fleet of electric buses to strengthen last-m

A bench headed by Justice V Ramasubramanian said at the stage of framing of charges, a court cannot get into details, which is to be seen at a later stage. The case is at the stage of framing of charges under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Therefore we do not see reasons to interfere at this stage. It is made clear that the (trial) court will follow the law laid down by this court, said the bench also comprising Justice Pankaj Mithal. The top court was hearing the ex-councillor's appeal against the Delhi High Court order rejecting his petition which challenged the trial court order for framing charges against him under Sections 3 (offence of money laundering) and 4 (punishment for the offence of money laundering) of PMLA.
