Continuous rain, high-speed winds in AP's Srikakulam ahead of cyclone Jawad

Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam district is witnessing continuous rainfall and wind speeds over 50 kmph ahead of Cyclone Jawad landfall.As per the Collector of Srikakulam, "Rainfall is being witnessed across the district since yesterday. These are not heavy pours but it is raining continuously. In some parts of the district, wind speeds are being reported at 50-55 kmph. There are currently 79 cyclone shelters operations since yesterday.""National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force and fire teams are on alert and have been deployed across the entire district," he added.Meanwhile, Indian Railways has cancelled around 36 trains scheduled today to ensure the safety of passengers.Around 38 trains scheduled to depart on December 5 and one of December 6 have also been cancelled as a precautionary measure."Waltair Division of East Coast Railway is prepared to face the challenges posed by cyclone Jawad. Cyclone Jawad likely to hit Andhra Pradesh, Odisha today morning: IMD

The Cyclone Jawad is likely to reach north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha on Saturday morning and Puri is likely to witness heavy rains on Sunday, said India Meteorological Department (IMD).According to the Met department, Cyclone Jawad lay centered at 5:30 pm of Friday over westcentral Bay of Bengal, about 300 km south-SE of Vishakhapatnam, 420 km nearly south of Gopalpur, 480 km south-SW of Puri & 560 km south-southwest of Paradip"It is likely to move north-northwestwards, intensify further and reach west-central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh - south Odisha coasts by tomorrow, December 4 morning," said the IMD."Thereafter it is likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move along the Odisha coast reaching near Puri around December 5 noon. Subsequently, it is likely to continue to move north-northeastwards along coastal Odisha towards West Bengal coast," said the IMD.

Three teams of NDRF deployed in Vishakhapatnam in wake of Cyclone 'Jawad'

As Cyclone "Jawad" is expected to hit North Andhra Pradesh on early Saturday morning, three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed in Vishakhapatnam on Friday.Speaking to ANI, NDRF Sub-inspector Satyanarayan said, "We are a total of three teams that are deployed here. Two other teams are kept as reserves. We shall respond to any untoward situation to rescue people and do our best to avoid any mishap or loss. We shall clear all the roads of any debris if there are any landslides or uprooting of trees. Also, we will rescue any person who is drowning in the flood-affected areas."NDRF Head Constable Rama Rao said, "We are all set & alert 24x7 for any eventuality. The main concerns are landslides & the uprooting of trees. We have to clear roads quickly to avoid any traffic problems.
