Paint manufacturer Nippon Paint (India) Pvt Ltd would foray into the Rs 12,500 crore construction chemicals market as it eyes to expand the product portfolio, the company said on Saturday. With its entry into the construction chemicals division apart from the current paint and coatings product range, Nippon Paint would offer products and solutions under dry mix, repair and maintenance, construction chemicals and waterproofing categories. The products to be launched (in construction chemicals) would be focused on three segments -- during construction, post construction and taking up repair and maintenance. With this expansion, Nippon Paint said it also has plans to increase the dealer touch points by 50 per cent. Informal women workers in Indian construction and real estate sector earn 30-40 per cent less than male workers, according to a report that highlights about gender inequality in this sector. Consulting firm Primus Partners and World Trade Center on Monday released a report 'Pink Collar Skilling: Unleashing the Women's Power in the Real Estate Sector' stating that out of the total people employed in this industry only 12 per cent are women. "In the domestic construction and real estate sector, which employs 57 million workers, 50 million of the people employed are men, and only 7 million are women," the report said. Further, it added that the informal women workers engaged in construction in India earn 30-40 per cent less than their male counterparts. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) approached the Delhi High Court on Friday against an order of the Lokpal of India directing a CBI investigation against its officials on the basis of a complaint about alleged illegal and unauthorised constructions in the city. Justice Prathiba M Singh, while refusing to pass an interim order of stay "at this stage" deferred the hearing till January 5. She asked the counsel for the petitioner to serve a copy of the petition to the Lokpal in the meantime. Senior counsel Rajshekhar Rao, appearing for the municipal body, urged the court to stay further proceedings. The judge, however, said she will pass an order of stay if a case is made out against the MCD on the next date of hearing. Lokpal is consisting of three members with a retired high court... Realty firm Elan Group on Friday said it has raised USD 60 million from global investment firm PAG to fund construction of projects, reduce debt and expand business. The company has secured a second round of funding from PAG. In August this year, it had raised USD 50 million from PAG. The investment will be used towards growth capital to endorse existing debt and to scale up construction of its new luxury housing project -- "The Presidential", located in Sector 106 Gurugram. "This follow-on financing from PAG further strengthens the partnership between both firms and the team at Elan is geared up to put this capital to its most efficient use", said Sandeep Agarwal, CFO, Elan Group. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Sunday said the city government has set up 586 teams to ensure strict implementation of the ban on construction and demolition activities in the national capital in view of worsening air quality. Addressing a press conference, Rai said that as per experts, wind speed and direction would become unfavourable from November 1 and push the air quality index into the 'severe' category. Therefore, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has directed the authorities in the NCR to implement curbs, including a ban on construction and demolition activities, under stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan, he said. "We have held a meeting with all construction agencies in the capital and government departments concerned, including the PWD, MCD, Railways, DDA and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said on Saturday it has issued directions for the closure of 491 construction and demolition sites, including 110 in Delhi, for flouting air pollution control norms. The CAQM has set up 40 flying squads to rigorously monitor enforcement and compliance of its directions to ameliorate the air quality of Delhi-NCR. These flying squads have inspected more than 8,580 construction and demolition sites till October 14. Closure directions have been issued to 491 defaulters -- 110 in Delhi, 118 in Haryana, 211 in Uttar Pradesh and 52 in Rajasthan -- a statement said.
