Congress cannot think beyond one family: Nadda at BJP event in Haryana

BJP president J P Nadda on Sunday lashed out at the Congress, saying it does not have any ideology and cannot think "beyond one family". At the same time, he said, BJP is a party with ideology, "so we have to move forward by working with 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas'". "They (Congress) cannot think beyond one family," Nadda said addressing BJP's 'Shakti Kendra Samagam' at Samalkha in Panipat, according to a party release. BJP workers of six Lok Sabha segments in the state were among those present at the event, which was also addressed by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and state BJP chief O P Dhankar. Earlier in the day, after virtually inaugurating the 'National Youth Parliament' of his party's youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha being held in Chennai, Nadda had accused Rahul Gandhi of overstepping all bounds of democracy and said he should be sent packing "lock, stock and barrel" in a democratic manner. The Congress has become mentally bankrupt, the

Rahul in fresh row over remarks as Delhi Police lands at his doorstep

In the midst of the simmering row over his "democracy under threat" remarks in the UK, Rahul Gandhi on Sunday faced a Delhi police team that reached his residence to inquire about his "women are still being sexually assaulted" statement made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, intensifying the BJP-Congress verbal slugfest. Gandhi in his initial response termed the police action "unprecedented" and questioned the process as well as the sudden urgency shown over his remarks made in Srinagar 45 days ago. He also sought 8-10 days for a detailed response to the queries, sources said. A furious Congress condemned the Delhi Police action after the cops knocked on Gandhi's doors for the third time in five days asking him to provide information on the women "victims" so that the police can take up their case. The opposition party attacked the central government, accusing it of harassment, intimidation and political vendetta, but the BJP rejected the charge and said the police was "only discharging

Remarks against PM: SC to hear Congress leader Pawan Khera's plea on Monday

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a plea of Congress leader Pawan Khera seeking transfer and clubbing of FIRs lodged against him in Assam and Uttar Pradesh for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud on Friday deferred the hearing on Khera's plea to March 20 after taking note of submissions that senior advocate A M Singhvi, appearing for the Congress leader, was unavailable. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Uttar Pradesh and Assam, urged the bench that the matter can be taken up for hearing on Monday instead of Friday. "Ok, we will take it up on Monday," said the bench, which also comprises justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala. The apex court had earlier extended the interim bail of Khera, who was arrested by Assam Police in the case, till March 17. Earlier, Assam and Uttar Pradesh governments, in their separate affidavits, opposed Khera's plea seekin

Announcements in Budget attempt of Cong to fulfil personal interests: Raje

Senior BJP leader Vasundhara Raje on Friday termed the budget announcements made by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot an attempt to fulfil "personal political interests". "The new announcements of the Congress government are just an attempt to fulfil their personal political interests. In this effort, he has put the entire economic system of Rajasthan at stake. The consequences of which will have to be borne by the people of the state and the state in the years to come," she said in a statement. The former chief minister said many important facts have been ignored in the process of creating new districts and people would have to face administrative complications. Gehlot on Friday announced his government's decision to form 19 new districts and three new divisions in the state, earmarking Rs 2,000 crore for development of infrastructure for them. The chief minister has tried to politicise the budget and put fiscal indicators of the state at stake, which is unfortunate, Raje said

CBI working impartially; most cases being probed reported during UPA: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday asserted that probe agencies like the CBI and the ED have been working impartially and except two, all cases they were investigating had been registered during the UPA government. Participating in the India Today Conclave here, Shah said whatever the investigating agencies were doing could be challenged in courts. In 2017, during Uttar Pradesh polls, a big woman leader of Congress had said if they were indulging in corruption, why there was no investigation. She was questioning us. Now they are creating a hue and cry when there has been action, he said. The home minister said these investigating agencies are not above the court and any notice, FIR and chargesheet can be challenged in the courts. Instead of going to the court, why are they shouting outside. I want to ask the people if there is any corruption allegation against anyone, should not there be a probe. All these cases, except two, were registered during their rule. Not during our ..

Cong must smell political coffee after BJP's poll results in NE: Irani

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's comments in the UK did not come due to his concern over India but for his political legacy, Union minister Smriti Irani said on Friday, stressing that the opposition party should take a hint from the recent poll results in the northeast and "smell the political coffee". The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained power on its own in Tripura and with its senior ally, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), in Nagaland. "Let us keep the 2014 and 2019 (Lok Sabha) elections aside. The Congress should take a hint from the recent poll results in the northeastern states of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya, where the BJP did fairly well, and smell the political coffee," the Union minister for women and child development and minority affairs said at the India Today Conclave here. Referring to Gandhi's "democracy-under-attack" remarks made during his recent visit to the United Kingdom, Irani said, "Democracy is not in peril in India, the Congress party ...

Jairam playing chief saboteur': Himanta on Ramesh's prompt to Rahul

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi being apparently prompted by party colleague Jairam Ramesh during a press conference, by terming the economist-turned politician, Congress's "Chief Saboteur". He also ridiculed those who believe that Gandhi will emerge as a challenger to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I feel nothing but sorry for the so called secularists and leftists who harbour high hopes, expecting this man to defeat Hon PM @narendramodi ji and become PM, Sarma wrote on Twitter. And Jairam seems to be playing the role of Chief Saboteur. Tutoring with mic on strange, the former Congressman-turned-BJP leader added, sharing a video clip of 26 seconds. In the transcript of the clip, as shared by Sarma, Gandhi is initially shown saying unfortunately I am a member of parliament at which Ramesh, seated to his left, intervenes and purportedly tells Gandhi that they can make a joke of it. The senior partyman then asks Gandhi

Cong, AAP accuse Chandigarh MP for using 'inappropriate' words for voters

The Congress and the AAP on Thursday slammed BJP MP from Chandigarh Kirron Kher, accusing her of using "inappropriate" words while referring to her constituents at an event here, and demanded that she apologise. They claimed that Kher, a second-time MP from Chandigarh, used words such as "laanat hai" and "chittar ferne chahiye" while referring to voters. Kher was addressing an event in Kishangarh here on Wednesday and she talked about the development works done for the residents of the Deep Complex locality. In a video, the MP is purportedly heard saying that "agar Deep Complex mein ek bhi banda mere ko vote na dale toh phir bade laanat ki baat hai...jaakar chittar ferne chahiye unko, kyon ki itne paise deke maine unki sadke banvayi (If not even one from Deep Complex votes for me, then it is a highly shameful thing...they need to be beaten up with slippers)". Kher appeared to be speaking in a lighter vein, but her political rivals latched on to her remarks and launched a scathing .
