The UAE will explore all opportunities of partnership with India to contribute to New Delhi's high-growth-low-carbon pathway, Sultan Al Jaber, the COP28 president-designate, said on Wednesday. He also said the goal of limiting the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial level is "just non-negotiable". Al Jaber said India is on its way to becoming the third largest economy in the world and this makes it one of the largest consumers of energy. As such, India's sustainable development is critical not just for itself but for the whole world. "India's goal of adding 500 gigawatt of clean energy in next seven years is a true and a powerful statement of intent. As one of the largest investors in renewable energy, the UAE and Masdar (renewable energy investing firm) will explore all opportunities of partnership with India to contribute to its high-growth-low-carbon pathway," he said. "Keeping the goal of 1.5 (degrees Celsius) alive is just non-negotiable. An

In Indonesia's region of East Kalimantan, the country's dependence on coal is on full display. Driving on the region's toll road, passersby can watch excavators digging coal from shallow pits as trucks filled with the carbon-rich rocks rush by. Under a bridge in Samarinda, the region's capital, hundreds of mammoth, jet-black mountains of coal sit in barges being pulled along the waterway, headed to plants across Indonesia or other countries. They're sights that Indonesia has pledged to phase out or at least drastically reduce by agreeing to some five schemes with international stakeholders, including the largest-signed USD 20 billion Just Energy Transition Partnership deal. While the deals aim to turn one of the largest coal-producing countries toward its vast greener energy sources, experts warn that financial, policy, infrastructure and other challenges need to be overcome. Indonesia's energy transition is "very unique" because of high economic growth, geography, population ...

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries on Monday showcased a truck that runs on hydrogen, the cleanest known fuel whose tail emissions are only water and oxygen, at the India Energy Week here. The Ashok Leyland manufactured truck with two large hydrogen cylinders was put up at a hall adjacent to the main venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the three-day event that is themed around 'Growth, Collaboration, Transition'. A display near the truck said this was "India's 1st H2ICE technology truck on road." The truck has "near-zero emissions" when it uses hydrogen as fuel in place of conventional diesel or even recently introduced liquefied natural gas (LNG). "H2ICE vehicle performance on-par with diesel ICE," it said. H2 is the formula for hydrogen and ICE stands for internal combustion engine. India is fast pushing for use of hydrogen, which can be produced by splitting water using electricity. Use of electricity generated from renewable sources such as solar
