The Haryana government will write to the Goa government requesting it to recommend a CBI probe into the death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar assured her family members on Saturday. Family members of Phogat met Khattar at his residence here Saturday evening and requested for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into her death. Khattar assured the family that his government will write to the Goa government in this regard, according to an official statement. During the meeting, the chief minister expressed grief over the sudden demise of Phogat. "The government is firmly standing with the family in this sensitive time and the government will take every possible step to ensure justice in this case," he said. The CBI has filed a charge sheet in an alleged bribery case in which a senior official of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation(CDSCO) and a Biocon Biologics executive were arrested in June this year, officials said It is alleged that the bribe payment of Rs nine lakh to Joint Drug Controller S Eswara Reddy was cleared by the associate vice president of Biocon Biologics L Praveen Kumar, they said. The bribe was allegedly for favourably recommending the file of Insulin Aspart Injection to the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) meeting on May 18 for waiving the phase 3 clinical trial, they said. The agency had filed a charge sheet on August 18, they said. As many as 171 cases involving more than 600 officers accused of corruption were pending sanction for prosecution from different government departments, according to the Central Vigilance Commission's latest report. Of these, a highest of 65 such cases involving 325 officers are pending with the Department of Financial Services (DFS), 12 cases against 67 officers with the customs and central excise, 11 cases involving 30 officers with the Ministry of Railways and eight cases involving against 19 officers with the Ministry of Defence, it said. A special CBI court on Wednesday remanded Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal to 14 days in judicial custody. Mondal was arrested by the CBI on August 11 in connection with its probe into the alleged cattle smuggling to Bangladesh. Rejecting the bail plea of Mondal, Asansol special CBI court judge Rajesh Chakraborty remanded him to judicial custody till September 7. He will be produced before the court again on that day. The Centre has suspended senior IAS officer A Gopi Krishna and Anand Kumar Tiwari, a DANICS officer, in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, officials said. While Krishna was the excise commissioner in the Delhi government, Anand Kumar was the deputy excise commissioner. The suspension order of the two officials came after they were named in the FIR filed by the CBI in the ongoing probe, officials said.
