PVR launches sustainability campaigns, join hands with actor Bhumi Pednekar

Leading multiplex operator PVR INOX Ltd on Saturday announced the launch of a campaign to spread awareness about climate change and has joined hands with Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar. PVR, which after its merger with INOX Leisure operates over 1,600 screens pan India, is taking steps to reduce the carbon footprint by pursuing sustainable activities in its operations. "We have started many initiatives such as replacing all plastic usage inside the cinema halls with biodegradable materials such as paper cups, cutlery plates etc. We have water and electricity conservation plans where we would replace LED light, sensors in common areas etc," PVR INOX Executive Director Sanjeev Kumar Bijli told PTI. With this, PVR INOX would save 2,000 tonnes of carbon footprints in a year by taking these sustainable steps, he added. Actor Sameer Khakhar, best known for playing the lovable drunk Khopdi in the classic 1980s TV serial "Nukkad", died at a hospital here in the early hours of Wednesday due to multiple organ failure. The actor, who was most recently seen in the Prime Video series "Farzi" and moved to the US in the 1990s for a few years to become a software developer, was 71. Sameer Khakhar was admitted to MM Hospital in Borivali in suburban Mumbai on Tuesday morning following respiratory issues, his younger brother Ganesh Khakhar told PTI. "He had respiratory problems since yesterday and later became unconscious. We called the doctor at home and were asked to hospitalise him. He was admitted to the intensive care unit of MM Hospital," he said. "Slowly and gradually, he suffered multiple organ failure. He was unconscious and then he collapsed. He passed away at 4.30 am today," Ganesh Khakhar added. The last rites were conducted at a Borivali crematorium in the presence of his family and some friends

Shah Rukh Khan-starrer "Pathaan" on Tuesday created history by becoming the first Hindi movie to cross Rs 1000 crore mark at the worldwide box office. According to Yash Raj Films (YRF), the Siddharth Anand directorial raised Rs 1.25 crore nett in India (Hindi - Rs 1.20 crore, dubbed versions - Rs 0.05 crore) on its fourth Monday. "The total worldwide gross is an incredible Rs 1000 crore (India gross: Rs 623 crore, overseas: Rs 377 crore)" the studio said in a press note. YRF said "Pathaan" has become the highest grossing Hindi film worldwide in the history of Hindi cinema. The stylish action thriller follows the titular spy (Shah Rukh) who comes out of exile to stop terrorist group Outfit X from launching a debilitating attack on India. Production house Yash Raj Films (YRF) on Tuesday said its latest offering "Pathaan", headlined by Shah Rukh Khan, has raised Rs 591 crore gross worldwide in six days. According to YRF, on its sixth day, the film registered Rs 26.50 crore nett in India (Hindi Rs 25.50 crore, Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions Rs 1 crore), taking the domestic gross to Rs 32 crore. The studio said that the overseas gross on day six stood at Rs 16 crore. Since its January 25 release, "Pathaan" has recorded Rs 224.6 crore in the overseas territories alone, while nett collection in India stand at Rs 307.25 crore (Hindi - Rs 296.50 crore, dubbed - Rs 10.75 crore). The Siddharth Anand-directed actioner, also starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, collected Rs 106 crore globally on its opening day, followed by Rs 113.6 crore on day two, Rs 90 crore on day three, Rs 116 crore on day four, and Rs 112 crore on day five.
