Violent mob at BJP's rally can be taught a lesson in 10 minutes: TMC leader

TMC leader Madan Mitra has courted controversy by claiming that those involved in violence and attacks on police during BJP's recent march to the West Bengal secretariat can be "taught a lesson in just 10 minutes". Mitra, however, added that the Trinamool Congress is not in favour of such an action in retaliation to BJP's "disruptive policies". The former state minister's comments come close on the heels of TMC general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee's remark that if I was there, I would have shot the violent protesters in the head. Mitra, speaking at a public meeting in Kamarhati constituency on Sunday, said, "If there is an instruction from the party, it won't take more than 10 minutes to thrash those who were involved in hooliganism and vandalism (during BJP's Nabanna Abhijan' on September 14). We can retaliate with double the force than the attackers. The maverick MLA also said TMC has emphasised it wants development not violence. It speaks the language of love and compassio

AAP demands sedition case against those involved in BJP's 'Operation Lotus'

The day-long national conclave of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday condemned the BJP's alleged "Operation Lotus" and passed a resolution, demanding that those involved in it be booked for sedition and handed down life imprisonment. The elected representatives of the AAP also took a pledge to make India the number one country in the world and take every possible effort to unite its 130 crore people for its success. Moving the resolution on "Operation Lotus", AAP MP Sanjay Singh dubbed it as the "biggest attack" ever on the sanctity of Independent India and said it poses a "greater threat" than any foreign invasion to the country. "Operation Lotus is placing illegal governments on the heads of the people by toppling elected governments in different parts of the country. It is the biggest scam in India," Singh read out the resolution. "Those responsible for the Operation Lotus are traitors. They should be charged with sedition and sentenced to life imprisonment," it demanded. In t

The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday hit back at the BJP after it called Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a "megalomaniac", saying the saffron party should answer questions raised by the AAP chief rather than deploying what it called were diversionary tactics. Under Modi, BJP has emerged as an organisation serving humanity: Nadda

Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the BJP has emerged as an organisation working for humanity, party president J P Nadda said on Saturday as he inaugurated various welfare programmes to mark the prime minister's birthday. The BJP president inaugurated an exhibition, a blood donation drive and other programmes at the party headquarters here. BJP workers are celebrating Modi's birthday by organising a 'Seva Pakhwada' (service fortnight), Nadda said. J&K: Will BJP explain decision to honour Hari Singh, says Chidambaram

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday took a swipe at the BJP over the announcement that Maharaja Hari Singh's birthday would be a public holiday in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the ruling party must explain the decision to honour the erstwhile ruler and "dishonour" the terms of the accession to India which the royal had signed on. The former home minister also said in the absence of Maharaja Hari Singh, only the people's elected representatives can determine their future. The decisions of August 5, 2019 were not the decisions of the people or of the elected Legislature, or of the duly constituted government, he added. On August 5, 2019, the Centre had scrapped J and K's special status and bifurcated it into Union Territories --- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. In a series of tweets, Chidambaram said the BJP has discovered the virtues of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir, and has declared his birthday as a holiday. BJP responsible for fertiliser crisis: Bihar Agri Minister Sudhakar Singh

Bihar Agriculture Minister Sudhakar Singh on Saturday squarely blamed the BJP for the fertiliser crisis in the state, and alleged that the saffron party leaders were protecting those indulged in hoarding and black marketing of fertilisers. The RJD leader, while speaking to reporters, alleged that the BJP leaders at the Centre and those who were part of the previous NDA government in the state were responsible for the crisis. "The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) government came to power in Bihar barely a month ago. BJP leaders who had earlier held the Agriculture portfolio allowed hoarding and black marketing of fertilisers in the state," he said, referring to his predecessor Amrendra Pratap Singh. Farmers in certain districts of Bihar including Khagaria, Katihar, Saharsa, Madhepura, Supaul, Purnea, Araria, Rohtas, Darbhanga, Buxar and Patna have been facing a shortage of fertilisers for quite some time due to its unavailability at designated fertiliser dealer shops, a senior offici

BJP continuing with 'Operation Lotus' to break Kejriwal-led party: AAP

The AAP on Saturday alleged that the arrest of its MLA Amanatullah Khan was part of BJP's efforts to poach Arvind Kejriwal-led party's legislators and topple its government in Delhi under "Operation Lotus". The Aam Aadmi Party legislator from Okhla was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch on Friday in connection with alleged irregularities in Delhi Waqf Board recruitment, officials said. Khan is the chairman of Delhi Waqf Board. "Looks like they are suffering a lot in Gujarat," Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a tweet in Hindi in an apparent attack on the BJP. He also anticipated the arrest of more MLAs of his party in the coming days. "First, they arrested (Delhi health minister) Satyendar Jain. They are not able to present any evidence despite the court repeatedly asking for it. Then, Manish's residence was raided, nothing was found there. Now, Amanatullah has been arrested. More MLAs will now be arrested," the AAP national convenor said in his tweet. Reacting to

Empowerment of Dalits at the core of Hindutva thought: BJP leader Paswan

Empowerment of Dalits is at the core of Hindutva thought and the Indian Constitution, a senior BJP leader has said, noting that significant progress has been made towards their empowerment in the 75 years of India's Independence. Though discrimination is talked about more in relation to the Dalits, it is important to know how the empowerment of the Dalits is at the core of Hindutva thought and the Indian constitution, BJP spokesperson Guru Prakash Paswan said addressing the first edition of "Indic Dialogue" in New Jersey on Thursday. Paswan, who is currently touring the US, addressed an audience in Silicon Valley as well as Los Angeles on a "Dalit Bahujan Solidarity Network". Opposition slams Punjab AAP govt over promises, says faltered on key issues

The opposition parties on Friday slammed the ruling AAP government in Punjab on the completion of its six months, accusing it of "selling" dreams to people while failing to fulfil promises. Kejriwal running university of lies: Delhi BJP on AAP's landfill sites plan

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is running a "university of lies", Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta alleged on Friday following AAP's claim that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was planning to create 16 more landfill sites here for dumping garbage. Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal had earlier said the BJP wanted to convert Delhi into "a city of garbage mountains", and claimed that the MCD has plans to create 16 more garbage dumps in the city. The BJP, which ruled the three municipal corporations for nearly 15 years, hit back and accused Kejriwal and his MLAs of spreading lies. The three municipal corporations whose term ended in May this year were unified by the Centre. The AAP and the BJP have been engaged in a verbal dual over the issue since then. Kejriwal said people living near the three existing landfill sites were already facing problems, including stench and unhygienic conditions, and added that people were totally against any more garbage dumps here.
