Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who met his counterpart in Bihar Nitish Kumar, as part of efforts to forge opposition unity, on Wednesday called for a BJP mukt Bharat, blaming the saffron party's government at the Centre for the many ills plaguing the country. At a press conference he addressed in the presence of Kumar, whom he fondly called "bade bhai" (big brother), Rao skirted questions about who will lead a united opposition and whether the Congress will be taken on board. Rao is one of the most vocal satraps opposed to the BJP. These things will be decided in due course. We are in no hurry, said Rao, in reply to questions about the prime ministerial candidate and the role of the Congress, to which his Telangana Rashtra Samiti is bitterly opposed. He blamed the Narendra Modi government for capital drain, a term he coined rhyming 'brain drain' to underscore that businesses were withdrawing their money from the country because of the Centre's policies. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Wednesday lashed out at the Narendra Modi government in the Centre and criticised its excessive prachaar-prasaar (publicity) besides its alleged lack of sensitivity towards the needs of the states. Addressing a function here alongside K Chandrasekhar Rao, his Telangana counterpart, Kumar took a veiled dig at BJP which has undertaken an aggressive campaign to expand its base in the southern state. Your adversaries speak a lot against you. Little do they realize what stuff you are made of. You were the one whose single-minded struggle led to the creation of Telangana. The people will never desert you, Kumar, the de facto leader of the JD(U), said. His teaming with 'KCR', as Rao is popularly called, is being seen as an important step in the direction of achieving opposition unity. Kumar's speech was preceded by KCR giving cheques of Rs 10 lakh each to five soldiers from the state who were killed in the stand-off with Chinese troops in Galwan valley o
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday left for Patna to give financial assistance to the families of Indian soldiers, who were martyred in Galwan valley in 2020. Rao's proposed visit assumes significance as his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar recently severed ties with the NDA and formed a government in that state with RJD, Congress, CPI-ML (L), CPI, CPI(M) and HAM under the 'Mahagathbandhan.' Earlier this year, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav met Rao here. According to an official release, Chief Ministers of both the states will discuss national politics on the occasion. Rao will also provide financial aid to the kin of 12 workers from Bihar, who died in a fire accident here recently. Rao will hand over cheques for Rs 10 lakh to each family of fallen soldiers and Rs 5 lakh to the kin of deceased migrant workers. Rao had announced support to the families of 19 jawans martyred in the Galwan Valley clashes i
In a significant development, RJD's Kartik Kumar, who was given the law portfolio earlier in the month, was shifted to the sugarcane department amid the ongoing row over his alleged involvement in a criminal case. Shamim Ahmad, also an RJD leader, replaced Kumar as the law minister, a notification issued by the state Cabinet Secretariat Department said. Ahmad held the sugarcane portfolio before his elevation. The opposition BJP had been demanding Kumar's removal from the cabinet, alleging that an arrest warrant was pending against him in a 2014 kidnapping case. The Congress and CPI-ML (Liberation), constituents of the ruling Grand Alliance, had also asked the Nitish Kumar government to reconsider the decision of inducting Kartik Kumar into the cabinet.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will visit Bihar on August 31 to give financial assistance to the families of Indian soldiers who martyred in Galwan valley, an official release said on Monday. Rao will also provide financial assistance to the families of the 12 Bihar workers who died in the recent fire accident here, it further said. He will distribute the cheques along with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, according to the release. "Both the Chief Ministers will discuss the national politics on this occasion," it said. Rao and his Jharkhand counterpart Hemant Soren in March handed over cheques for Rs 10 lakh each to the family members of two jawans martyred in Galwan Valley clashes at the Chinese border. Rao had announced to extend support to the families of 19 jawans martyred in the Galwan Valley clashes in 2020. The Telangana government had earlier extended support to Colonel Santosh Babu, belonging to Telangana, who was martyred in the clashes.
Senior BJP leader, Sushil Kumar Modi, on Sunday demanded the removal of Bihar Co-operative minister, Surendra Prasad Yadav, from the Nitish Kumar Cabinet for his alleged involvement in criminal cases. Modi, a former deputy chief minister of Bihar, had recently demanded the resignation of state Agriculture minister Sudhakar Singh for his alleged involvement in the rice scam. Talking to media persons here on Sunday, Modi, said, Yadav, an accused in a case registered on June 15, 2018, under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, must be dismissed from the Nitish Kumar cabinet. Yadav, an RJD MLA, was recently charge-sheeted by a Pocso court for revealing the identity of a gang rape victim, he alleged. A person like Yadav, who is anti-woman, does not deserve to be a minister at all, said the BJP Rajya Sabha member. On July 13, 1998, when the then Union home minister L K Advani stood up to speak on the Women's Reservation Bill, Surend
The Communist Party of India on Friday asked the 'Mahagathbandhan' government in Bihar, which it is supporting from outside, to use bulldozers against leaders of the BJP in the state. CPI national secretary Atul Anjan also demanded that a "white paper" on the "ill-gotten" wealth of BJP leaders in the state be brought out to debunk the notion that "only other parties are corrupt". "Let (CM) Nitish Kumar and (deputy CM) Tejashwi Prasad Yadav instruct officials concerned to identify and raze structures belonging to BJP leaders which are found to be encroaching upon public land. Bulldozers should now be used against the party", he told reporters. "If Nitish and Tejashwi baulk, we will take it as a lack of moral courage (naitik saahas) on their part," said Anjan. The CPI leader said his party was still open to joining the cabinet in the state, unlike other Left parties - the CPI(ML) and CPI(M) which have ruled out such a possibility. "But we have received no offer so far. And we do no
Veteran RJD leader Awadh Bihari Chaudhary was on Friday unanimously elected as Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. The post had fallen vacant upon resignation of Vijay Kumar Sinha, against whom a no-confidence motion was moved by the 'Mahagathbandhan', after it came to power in the state earlier this month. Chaudhary was seated on the Chair by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Sinha, a senior BJP leader, who has now become the Leader of the Opposition.
The BJP in Bihar on Thursday alleged that Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav was a "fake", who belonged to a family of "shepherds" but claimed to be a descendant of Lord Krishna's clan. State BJP spokesman and OBC Morcha national general secretary Nikhil Anand came out with a stinging statement against the young RJD leader in response to a press conference held by the latter. In the press meet, Yadav had fulminated against "a Union minister, who was dreaming of becoming the CM and planning a game (khela') in Bihar". Though Yadav had not named anybody, Anand took the bait, saying "Nityanand Rai (MoS for Home) is a real Yadav as he belongs to a family of cowherds and is, therefore, a descendant of Lord Krishna. Tejashwi is farji' (fake) as he belongs to a community of shepherds". It has been widely speculated that were the BJP to win power in Bihar, it might back Rai as the chief minister in a bid to win over the Yadavs, the most populous and politically assertive caste grou

The Bihar BJP on Wednesday chose Vijay Kumar Sinha, who stepped down as Speaker of the state Assembly, as the leader of its legislature party. In a communication sent to the Vidhan Sabha secretariat, state BJP president Sanjay Jaiswal requested that Sinha be accorded the status of the Leader of the Opposition (LoP). Serving his third consecutive term from the Lakhisarai Assembly segment, Sinha has also been a minister from 2017 to 2020. Earlier, the Leader of the Opposition was RJD's Tejashwi Yadav, who is now the Deputy CM. Jaiswal said that former minister Samrat Chaudhary has been chosen as the BJP's leader in the Legislative Council.
Tejashwi Yadav said: "After losing the power in Bihar, the BJP has forwarded the three 'Jamai' to defame my image. The allegation leveled on me is baseless and its attributes to conspiracy against me.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Saturday came out with a list of directives for cabinet colleagues belonging to the RJD, in an obvious attempt at image makeover for his party. The RJD heir apparent issued the commandments on his official Twitter handle, whereby party ministers have been forbidden from purchasing new cars and also from allowing visitors to touch feet. Greetings should be exchanged with namaste or aadab, said Yadav, whose party is facing the heat over criminal cases pending against many ministers. He further asked ministers to conduct themselves with dignity and humility and give priority to helping the poor irrespective of their religion and caste. Please also promote exchange of books or pens in place of bouquets, added the leader who now seems intent on projecting a more mature image of himself. In an apparent bid to restrain RJD members from gloating over their party being the largest partner, he used the term under the leadership of honoura
