Kohli rested from final T20I against South Africa, confirms BCCI official

Star India batter Virat Kohli has been rested from the third and final T20 international against South Africa here on Tuesday. Following the series-clinching win in Guwahati on Sunday, Kohli flew to Mumbai on Monday morning. "He has been rested from the final T20I," said a BCCI official. After the final game against the Proteas, Kohli will link up with the squad in Mumbai from where the team is scheduled to leave for Australia on October 6 for the T20 World Cup. The former India captain smashed an unbeaten 49 off 28 balls on Sunday as India won the second T20I by 16 runs to take an unassailable lead in the three-match series. The last time Kohli was rested, from the away ODI and T20Is against the West Indies, questions were asked on the decision as he was going through a prolonged lean patch then. The Supreme Court on Monday said that it would hear on September 13, a plea of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seeking the court's permission to amend its constitution concerning the tenure of its office bearers including that of the President and Secretary. The BCCI, in its proposed amendment, has sought the abolition of a cooling-off period for its office bearers which would enable Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah to continue in office as President and Secretary despite them having completed six years at respective state cricket associations. The activities of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are commercial in nature and can be termed as a "shop" for the purposes of attracting the provisions of the Employees State Insurance Act, the Supreme Court has said. The top court said ESI Act is welfare legislation enacted by the Centre and a narrow meaning should not be attached to the words used in the Act as it seeks to insure the employees of covered establishments against various risks to their life, health, and well-being and places the charge upon the employer.
