Andhra Pradesh government's revenue has touched Rs 25,928 crore in the first half of financial year 2022-23, the Chief Minister's Office said. This was 94.47 per cent of the targeted Rs 27,445 crore for the first half of the year, the CMO said in a release on Thursday, citing officials who took part in a review by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on revenue earning departments. The release said Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in the state was 28.79 per cent in the April-September period as against the national average of 27.8 per cent. It also quoted the officials as informing the Chief Minister that the state's revenue was "on track" and that they were taking steps to "plug the leaks". A couple of days ago, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) released the state accounts for the first five months of 2022-23, putting AP's tax revenue at Rs 43,499.73 crore. This was Rs 6,448.94 crore excess as compared to the first five months in the previous fiscal. Betw
The ruling YSR Congress sought to play it safe and the principal opposition Telugu Desam Party chose to remain silent while the BJP attacked the transformation of Telangana Rashtra Samithi into Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Asked about the emergence of BRS, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu merely smiled, and remained mum. K Chandrasekhara Rao, who decided to convert his regional party TRS into BRS with ambitions to play a role in national politics, was once a member of the TDP and worked under Chandrababu Naidu. For the past few days since KCR started working on his new plans, there has been talk that he might seek to draw some of his erstwhile colleagues in the TDP into the BRS-fold to make a presence in Andhra Pradesh. It will, however, be interesting to see if KCR succeeds to make any impact in Andhra Pradesh on which he only spews venom. Interestingly, KCR, who nurtured national ambitions even in 2018, tried to befriend YSRC president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, as part of forging a f

Job aspirants, particularly those seeking to get into executive cadre posts, will have to undergo a personality test as the Andhra Pradesh government rescinded its previous order dispensing with personal interviews. In June 2021, the state government issued an order dispensing with personal interviews for recruitment of staff, calling it a "historic decision" aimed at maintaining "utmost transparency" and ensuring "complete trust" in the recruitment process for government jobs. Recruitment for all categories of government posts was supposed to be done only based on a written examination. But it has now reversed its policy, to do away with the transparent process and bring back the old system, albeit with a new nomenclature called 'personality test.' "The government, after careful consideration of the matter, hereby restores the personality test for higher level posts of Group-1 services for recruiting suitable and meritorious candidates for effective and efficient delivery of publi

: Come October 1, all employees working under the state-owned Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Corporation Limited will be barred from using their mobile phones while on duty to create a distraction-free environment in offices. The CPDCL noted that the communication gadgets have become a veritable nuisance as employees are wasting their working hours on their mobile phones, thereby hampering the day-to-day office work. Accordingly, CPDCL chairman and managing director J Padma Reddy issued an order banning use of mobile phones by employees during office hours. Senior officers of the organisation, however, are exempted from the ban. This is probably the first-of-its-kind order in any government organisation, official sources said. From October 1, computer operators, record assistants, typists, junior and senior assistants and outsourced employees working in all offices of the CPDCL will have to deposit their mobile phones while entering the workplace. No employee will be .

Students and teachers of Class 8 will have to wait three more months to receive the tablet computers (tabs) promised by the Andhra Pradesh government. Though the state government announced it will distribute tabs to 4,59,564 students and 59,176 teachers in government and aided schools in September, "supply issues" are said to be pushing the delivery date further to December. The total 5,18,740 tabs will cost the government Rs 664 crore and are supposed to come with pre-loaded Byju's academic content for Class 8, sources in the Education Department said. The AP Technology Services finalised the deal with a private supplier for the Samsung T220 Lite Tablet PC, with the delivery schedule supposed to start this month. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is expected to make a PowerPoint presentation, on the need for three capitals for the state, in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on the opening day of the monsoon session beginning Thursday. There is no clarity from the government side yet on whether or not a new Bill will be introduced in the Legislature on the three capitals plan. In a face-saving exercise to pre-empt a legal fallout, the Jagan Mohan Reddy government abruptly passed a Bill in the Assembly on November 22 last year, repealing the controversial AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020, which was intended to establish three capitals for the state. The Chief Minister, however, had then vowed that his government would come up with a "complete, comprehensive and better" Bill to take forward his "decentralised development" plan after explaining "our genuine intention and the need for decentralisation" to all concerned and incorporating necessary ...
