International passengers tested for Covid at Andhra's Gannavapuram airport

Alerted by the new BF.7 Covid-19 variant, the officials at the Gannavaram airport here in Andhra Pradesh conducted Corona tests for international travellers.The arrangements were made by the District Medical Officers at the airport on the orders of the Central and State Governments.As per Centre's guidelines, two per cent of international passengers arriving at Indian airports are to be tested.Airport Director Lakshmi Kanta Reddy has revealed that they are organising the Covid tests at Gannavaram Airport and will continue at Gannavaram Airport as per the orders of the Central and State Governments."An Air India flight arrived at Gannavaram Airport with 140 passengers from Sharjah. AP govt gives free tabs with edu content to over 500,000 students

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday formally launched free computer tab loaded with Byju's content to over five lakh Class VIII students at Yadlapalli in Bapatla district. Addressing a public gathering, Jagan said around Rs 686 crore was spent to distribute 5,18,740 tabs loaded with Byju's content free of cost to 4.59 lakh Class VIII students besides teachers, which can be used even in offline mode. The cost of each tab with content is Rs 32,000. The State government's intention is to facilitate digital mode education to enable students to learn easily in classrooms and at home as well. The distribution of tabs will continue for one week across the State and it will be a yearly event, he said. Highlighting the salient features of the tab, the Chief Minister said besides Telugu, English and Hindi, the curriculum will be in eight languages designed based on CBSE syllabus to prepare students to perform well at national level competitive exams. CWC plans to construct 7 warehouses in AP in next 2 fiscals: Centre

The Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) plans to construct seven warehouses in Andhra Pradesh with a total capacity of over 18 lakh tonnes in the next two financial years, Parliament was informed on Wednesday. Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs, in her written reply to the Lok Sabha, said the CWC has already constructed six warehouses in Andhra Pradesh. It has planned construction of seven more warehouses in the next two years. About 12.84 lakh tonne capacity of warehouses will be constructed at Kadapa, Nandyal, Renigunta, Sattenpalli, Nellore, Nandikotkur and Vadlamudi in the state during 2023-24 financial year, she said. Another 52,794 tonne of capacity will be added by CWC during 2024-25 financial year, she added. The minister also shared that Andhra Pradesh State Warehousing Corporation (APSWC), which has already built 20 warehouses in the state in last three years, has planned to construct 10 more warehouses in AP.

Amaravati farmers protest against AP govt's plan for three state capitals

A large number of farmers from Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh organised a protest here against the state government's plan for bringing a law to develop three capitals instead of one, with MPs from various parties joining them to extend their support. AP govt to release Rs 6,500 crore to SHGs under YSR Asara scheme in Jan

The Andhra Pradesh Government will be releasing around Rs 6,500 crore to beneficiaries in the third phase of YSR Asara Scheme next month, an official release said on Friday. Under the scheme, outstanding loans of Self Help Groups (SHGs) up to 2019 will be waived by the state government. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy who chaired a workshop on door-to-door programme (Gadapa Gadapaku Prabhuthvam) today said the campaign covering every household should be conducted by the elected members and hand over the loan waiver letters to the beneficiaries. Arjas Steel to invest Rs 610 cr to augment capacity to 0.55 million tonne

Arjas Steel, formerly Gerdau Steel, on Wednesday announced a Rs 610 crore capex to increase its annual production capacity to 5.5 lakh tonne, adding over 37.5 per cent to its existing capacity across its Andhra and Punjab plants. The company operates two plants at Tadipatri in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh and at Mandi Gobindgarh in Punjab. The Andhra plant has a current capacity of 3 lakh tonne while the Punjab facility, which it acquired in November 2020 for about Rs 100 crore produces 1 lakh tonne per year. Of the total capex, around Rs 350 crore will go into the Tadipatri plant expansion and the rest Rs 260 crore will go into the Punjab unit, Sridhar Krishnamoorthy, managing director said in a statement. ONGC to invest Rs 2,150 cr on drilling 53 exploratory wells in Andhra

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd proposes to drill 53 exploratory wells in Andhra Pradesh- 50 in Godavari on-Land PML (Petroleum Mining Lease) Block of KG Basin and three in CD-ONHP-2020/1 (OALP-Vi) Block Of Cuddapah basin with an investment outlay of Rs 2,150 crore. Andhra Pradesh State-Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) in a meeting held last month cleared two separate proposals put up by the ONGC for environmental clearance. According to ONGC, it proposes to carry out the onshore exploration of 50 wells during 2021-'28 in Godavari on-land PML block of KG basin in East and West Godavari Districts of AP based on the geological and geophysical studies. These wells will be converted to development wells and connected to the nearest Early Production System (EPS)/ Gas Collecting Station (GCS) if proved commercially viable, it further said. Andhra govt accords civic reception to President Murmu in Vijayawada

President Droupadi Murmu was on Sunday felicitated by the Andhra Pradesh government at a civic reception in Vijayawada, on her maiden visit to the state. Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan and Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy welcomed the President and presented her the portraits of Sri Venkateswara Swamy. The state government has amended the AP Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2010, prohibiting deployment of teachers for non-educational purposes. The amendments to the RTE Act Rules will effectively keep teachers away from election duties, Census work and the like. The School Education Department has already cancelled the deputation of several teachers as personal assistants to ministers and legislators and re-engaged them in teaching activity. Section 27 of the Right to Education Act, 2009, envisaged prohibition of deployment of teachers for non-educational purposes.
