Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday formally launched free computer tab loaded with Byju's content to over five lakh Class VIII students at Yadlapalli in Bapatla district. Addressing a public gathering, Jagan said around Rs 686 crore was spent to distribute 5,18,740 tabs loaded with Byju's content free of cost to 4.59 lakh Class VIII students besides teachers, which can be used even in offline mode. The cost of each tab with content is Rs 32,000. The State government's intention is to facilitate digital mode education to enable students to learn easily in classrooms and at home as well. The distribution of tabs will continue for one week across the State and it will be a yearly event, he said. The Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) plans to construct seven warehouses in Andhra Pradesh with a total capacity of over 18 lakh tonnes in the next two financial years, Parliament was informed on Wednesday. Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs, in her written reply to the Lok Sabha, said the CWC has already constructed six warehouses in Andhra Pradesh. It has planned construction of seven more warehouses in the next two years. About 12.84 lakh tonne capacity of warehouses will be constructed at Kadapa, Nandyal, Renigunta, Sattenpalli, Nellore, Nandikotkur and Vadlamudi in the state during 2023-24 financial year, she said. Another 52,794 tonne of capacity will be added by CWC during 2024-25 financial year, she added. The minister also shared that Andhra Pradesh State Warehousing Corporation (APSWC), which has already built 20 warehouses in the state in last three years, has planned to construct 10 more warehouses in AP.

Arjas Steel, formerly Gerdau Steel, on Wednesday announced a Rs 610 crore capex to increase its annual production capacity to 5.5 lakh tonne, adding over 37.5 per cent to its existing capacity across its Andhra and Punjab plants. The company operates two plants at Tadipatri in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh and at Mandi Gobindgarh in Punjab. The Andhra plant has a current capacity of 3 lakh tonne while the Punjab facility, which it acquired in November 2020 for about Rs 100 crore produces 1 lakh tonne per year. Of the total capex, around Rs 350 crore will go into the Tadipatri plant expansion and the rest Rs 260 crore will go into the Punjab unit, Sridhar Krishnamoorthy, managing director said in a statement. Government teachers in Andhra Pradesh, from now on, will have nothing to do except perform their core task of teaching children. The state government has amended the AP Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2010, prohibiting deployment of teachers for non-educational purposes. The amendments to the RTE Act Rules will effectively keep teachers away from election duties, Census work and the like. The School Education Department has already cancelled the deputation of several teachers as personal assistants to ministers and legislators and re-engaged them in teaching activity.
