Paswan meets Shah, seeks ousting of Bihar govt amid worsening law situation

Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president and Lok Sabha MP Chirag Paswan met Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday and sought dismissal of the Bihar government, alleging that the rule of law has collapsed in the state. Paswan submitted his party's memorandum to Shah in which he alleged that liquor mafia is flourishing in Bihar under the official patronage, with people in large numbers dying by consuming spurious alcoholic drinks in the state where prohibition is in place. "It will not be wrong to say that the rule of law has ended in Bihar," he said. He shared the letter submitted to Shah on Twitter. Land and mining mafia are getting protection from the state government, he alleged, adding that criminals are ruling the roost. President's rule should be imposed in the state, Paswan, a strong critic of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, said. Paswan had walked out of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) before the state assembly polls in 2020 due to his opposition to Kumar. With K

Shah to visit poll-bound Karnataka on Dec 30 and 31 to review preparations

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting poll-bound Karnataka on December 30 and 31, where the ruling BJP aims to come back to power. His visit has gained significance amid the wait for expansion or reshuffle for Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai-led cabinet and reservation demand by various communities in the state. Amid official meetings, Shah is expected to review poll preparedness of the party and discuss the strategy with leaders and booth level workers. Karnataka is expected to go for assembly polls by April-May, 2023, and Bommai on Monday had held talks with Shah and BJP national president J P Nadda regarding poll preparations, cabinet and reservation related issues. Shah, who will be arriving in Bengaluru on December 29 night, is scheduled to inaugurate a mega dairy in Mandya and address a public meeting there on December 30, party sources said. New parties came to Gujarat, were wiped out: Amit Shah taunts AAP

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), saying that new parties came to Gujarat, made tall claims and promised guarantees ahead of the Assembly elections, but were wiped out after the results. In a virtual address to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Surat, he also said that the party's landslide victory in the state proves that Gujarat was and will always remain the saffron outfit's stronghold. "New parties came to Gujarat, made tall claims and gave guarantees, but after the election results they were wiped out," Shah said. In the recently-concluded Gujarat Assembly elections, the BJP scripted history by winning 156 out of the total 182 seats. The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP, which ran a high-decibel campaign and made several poll promises, managed to win only five seats, while the Congress party finished second by bagging 17 seats. "This historic win (of the BJP) gave a message to the country that Gujarat was, is and will always be BJP's ...

No mercy for NGOs seeking demographic change: Amit Shah in Lok Sabha

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the government will show no mercy towards non-government organisations trying to change the demography of the country and create societal disturbances through foreign funding. Responding to a debate on drug abuse in Lok Sabha, Shah said the government has roped in a number of NGOs to create awareness about drug abuse, but it cannot remain a silent spectator to unmonitored foreign funding of such organisations in the country. "There are many NGOs that want to disintegrate India's society. There are some NGOs that want to torture India's society. For these NGOs, the Indian government's policy can't be the same. "For those who don't abide by the FCRA (Foreign Contribution (Regulatory) Act), strong action will be taken against them. There will be no mercy to them," Shah said. "Flow of funds from foreign lands cannot remain unmonitored. Enough had taken place during your (UPA) rule. This is Narendra Modi's government. We will not allow any

Shah says battle against drugs delicately poised, asks states to join hands

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the battle against drugs was delicately poised and urged states to fight the menace together with the central government, keeping aside politics. Responding to a short-duration discussion in the Lok Sabha on the drug-abuse problem in the country and steps taken by the government to control it, Shah said the Modi government has zero tolerance policy towards drugs and vowed to put behind bars drug traders, howsoever big, in the next two years. "We have mapped the drug network across the states. No matter how big the criminal is, in the next two years there will be a situation that they will be behind bars," Shah said. He said the issue of drug menace is a serious one as profits from this trade are also used to finance the acts of terror. He said the presence of dirty money also destroys economy and the government will leave no stone unturned in achieving the target of drugs free India. No reckless politics in House: Shah slams Cong's Gogoi over Pegasus charge

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday took exception to Congress member Gaurav Gogoi's allegation that government snoops on politicians with Israeli spyware Pegasus and asked him to give proof of the claim, saying the house was not meant for reckless politics. Gogoi, while participating in a discussion in Lok Sabha on drug menace, sought to know from the government about the kind of surveillance mechanism it has in place on the country's land and sea borders, as well as international airports, to check the entry of contraband into the country. The Congress member also sought to know from the Home Minister as to what kind of surveillance and intelligence mechanisms are in place to check the arms smuggling, human trafficking, and smuggling of animal parts at the India-Myanmar border. You snoop on us again and again, install Pegasus on our phones and that of the journalists, Gogoi charged. You tell us how many drug mafias you have caught through Pegasus so far, Gogoi asked ...

Border row: Delhi meet achieved nothing, favoured Karnataka, claims Uddhav

Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday said that nothing came out of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's meeting with the chief ministers of Maharashtra and Karnataka over the border dispute. Speaking at a press conference after a meeting with his Maha Vikas Aghadi allies Congress and NCP, he also said it was difficult to believe that some tweets from the verified handle of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on the issue were not actually posted by him. "What was achieved by yesterday's meeting of Union home minister Amit Shah with chief ministers of Maharashtra and Karnataka? It was rubbing of salt into our wounds. As always, the deliberations favoured Karnataka," Thackeray said. The former chief minister demanded to know why Karnataka holds legislature sessions in Belagavi (the north Karnataka city which is the main bone of contention between the two states) and accorded it the status of second capital when the border dispute was before the Supreme Court. No one can capture one inch of land until Modi govt in power: Amit Shah

No one can capture one inch of land till the Narendra Modi government is in power, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday as the opposition demanded a discussion on clashes between Indian and Chinese forces along the LAC in Arunachal Pradesh. Addressing reporters outside Parliament House, Shah also said the Congress had raised the border issue in Parliament to avoid questions on the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation's FCRA [Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act] cancellation. The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF), he alleged, had got Rs 1.35 crore from the Chinese Embassy. Its registration was cancelled as this was not according to FCRA rules, he said. "India's permanent seat in the UN Security Council was sacrificed because of Nehru's love for China," Shah said. He applauded Indian soldiers for their valour. "I want to say it clearly... till the time the BJP government led by Prime Minister Modi is in power, no one can capture an inch of our land," Shah said.

Not even in dream: Maharashtra Guv on 'insulting Chhatrapati Shivaji'

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah stating he would never imagine even in his dream to insult icons like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The governor is facing flak from the Opposition for his comments that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is an "icon of olden times", triggering calls for his removal from office. "I cannot even imagine in my dreams to insult icons like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Maharana Pratap and Shri Guru Govind Singh. You are aware that I do not hesitate to express regrets or apologise immediately even if I unintentionally made a mistake," Koshyari stated in the letter addressed to Shah dated December 6. The governor also taunted former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray without taking his name. "When some big personalities were staying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, I, irrespective of my age, walked up to the high altitude forts in Maharashtra on my feet.
