Scindia discusses capacity enhancement, other issues with airport operators

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday discussed capacity enhancement, security equipment and customs issues with airport operators, amid rising domestic air traffic. India is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets and air traffic is on the rise while airlines are also introducing flights on various domestic and international routes. In a tweet on Friday, Scindia said he met the Advisory Group on Airport Operators to deliberate on a range of issues, such as capacity enhancement, security equipment, and customs issues. "Given the positive trend of a surge in domestic traffic, we are working to ensure that the industry is ready to cater to this growth," he said. Currently, there are around 148 operational airports. During the summer schedule from March 26 till October 28, Indian airlines will be operating a total of 22,907 weekly domestic flights. GMR Airports Infra shares settle with marginal gains after Q3 earnings

Shares of GMR Airports Infrastructure settled with marginal gains on Wednesday after the firm reported a PAT of Rs 104.82 crore for December quarter 2022-23. The stock of the firm soared 0.79 per cent to close at Rs 38.45 on the NSE. On the BSE, it went up 0.66 per cent to end at Rs 38.40. In volume terms, 5.57 lakh shares of the firm were traded on the BSE and 1.01 crore shares on the NSE, during the day. The 30-share BSE Sensex index closed 242.83 points or 0.40 per cent higher at 61,275.09 on Wednesday. On Tuesday, GMR Airports Infrastructure reported a consolidated profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 104.82 crore for December quarter, against a loss of Rs 515.34 crore in the year-ago period. Revenue from operations during the quarter under review was Rs 1,766.36 crore as against Rs 1,364.13 crore a year ago, the company said in a regulatory filing. Number of operational airports in country rises to 140 from 74 in 2014

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate the Mopa International Airport in Goa on Sunday, official sources said the number of operational airports in the country has almost doubled from 74 to over 140 since he took over in 2014. The government plans to develop and operationalise 220 airports in the next five years, they said. Govt temporarily defers sale of AAI's residual stakes in 4 JV airports

The government has decided to temporarily defer the proposed sale of AAI's stakes in the private joint ventures operating the airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, according to a senior official. State-owned Airport Authority of India's (AAI) residual stakes in the four major airports are to be sold under the government's ambitious National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) that was announced in August last year. NMP estimates aggregate monetisation potential of Rs 6 lakh crore through core assets of the central government over a four-year period from FY 2022 to FY 2025. The AAI holds 26 per cent stake each in joint ventures that operate Delhi and Mumbai airports. It owns 13 per cent shareholding each in the joint ventures that operate Hyderabad and Bangalore airports. Noida Airport: Survey for phase II land acquisition likely in two weeks

The survey for acquisition of land for the second phase of the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) is expected to begin in two weeks from now, according to officials. Currently, construction work is underway for the first phase of the Greenfield airport in Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar as the Uttar Pradesh government recently gave its go ahead for land acquisition for the second phase, they said. The second phase of the NIA is planned in an area of 1,365 hectare, of which around 1,185 hectare is owned by private persons, including farmers, of six villages -- Ranhera, Kureb, Dayanatpur, Karauli Bangar, Mundrah, and Birampur , an official said. The land is being acquired under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. SAIL inks pact with AAI for initiation of commercial flights from Rourkela

State-owned SAIL on Friday said that it has entered into a pact with Airport Authority of India (AAI) for facilitating the start of commercial flights from Rourkela in Odisha. Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has signed the operation and management contract with AAI through its unit Rourkela Steel Plant. The public sector enterprise had in 2018 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for use of its own airport, under the regional connectivity scheme UDAN, for operation of commercial flights.
