'The approach to underwriting education loans is now more student centric'

While the conventional way in which education loans were evaluated was to look at parents’ income and the collateral they could offer, private-sector lenders specialising in education loans focus on other criteria as well: the student’s academic record, the course, university and country she’s going to, the probability of finding a job after she completes her course, and the salary she is likely to earn from it. In this interview with Sanjay Kumar Singh of Business Standard, Amit Gainda, MD & CEO, Avanse Financial Services says that from being parent-centric, the approach to underwriting an education loan has become more student-centric.
