Smart-beta funds can add a kicker to portfolio returns, says ICICI Prudential's Chintan Haria

While market capitalisation-based index funds should form the core of an investor's portfolio, now they also have a wide variety of factor-based funds or smart-beta funds that they can choose from. Trends within the market change – sometimes quality does well, sometimes value, and so on. Past performance shows that broad-based factor-based funds, bought and held for the long-term, can enhance returns.
