It was a great start from England early on in the day as they reached fifty in the powerplay after winning the toss and deciding to bat first. Though neither Jos Buttler nor Jason Roy did well to stay at the crease for a long time, Dawid Malan (77 off 39 balls) made sure that England would get past 200 and he was well supported by Liam Livingstone (42* off 29 balls) and Harry Brook (19 off 9 balls).
In the defence of their total, the English bowlers started on a great note as well and removed India's top three for only 31 runs on the board in the first five overs. It was after that the Surya storm started to develop and threatened to take the game away from the hosts. He added 119 for the fourth wicket along with Shreyas Iyer. But once Iyer goit out, wickets fell regularly and Surya, after reaching his maiden hundred, was tasked to get 41 off the last two overs with Harshal Patel to support him.
The Mumbai Indians player did well to get 16 off the first four balls but got out on the fifth ball trying to accelerate. And India eventually finished the innings at 198/9.

The toss between England skipper Jos Buttler and India captain Rohit Sharma was won by the former who decided to bat first at a high-scoring Trent Bridge venue. Rohit Sharma said he would have fielded first, so once again, the toss became irrelevant.
India once again made big changes as they got in Avesh Khan, Umran Malik and Ravi Bishnoi as three bowlers in place of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal while Shreyas Iyer has been given an opportunity in place of Hardik Pandya to showcase his skills.
England have included Phil Salt and Reece Topley in their side in place of Sam Curran and leg spinner Matthew Parkinson.
