76th I-Day LIVE: President Murmu pays tribute at National War Memorial

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hoisted the Tricolour at the Red Fort on the occasion of 76th Independence Day. After unfurling the flag, PM Modi addressed the nation on its 75 years of Independence. 

PM Modi in his I-Day address said, "Corruption is eating our nation from within. We have to fight with all our strength against corruption and nepotism culture in the country." He said, "Development of India, wherever we are, should be on our minds always."

"In the coming years, we have to focus on 'Panchpran' (5 pledges). First, to move forward with bigger resolves and resolve of developed India; Second, to erase all traces of servitude; Third, be proud of our legacy; Fourth, the strength of unity and fifth, duties of citizens which includes the PM and CMs," said PM Modi at Red Fort.

He appealed for Jai Javan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anushandhan. He said, "We always remember Lal Bahadur Shastri ji's slogan of 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan'. Later, AB Vajpayee added 'Jai Vigyaan' to this slogan. Now, there is another necessity to add - 'Jai Anusandhan' (research & innovation). Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyaan aur Jai Anusandhan."

PM Modi commends forces for taking forward 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative. He added, "We need to be Aatmanirbhar in our energy sector. From solar energy to Mission Hydrogen to the adoption of EVs, we need to take these initiatives to the next level for energy independence."

"When we are connected to our roots, then only we can fly high; when we fly high, we will provide solutions to the entire world," said PM Modi, and added India needs to respect its rich legacy.
