Guarding cow dung may not look like a full-time job but Mantu Ram Kashyap and his wife Meera are doing just that with full dedication.

Residents of the sleepy Kutru village, tucked away in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bijapur district, Kashyap and his wife work in shifts during the night to keep an eye on the dung, so that it’s not stolen. The waste from his cattle is after all wealth for Kashyap.

The Chhattisgarh government, led by Bhupesh Baghel, started procuring cow dung under its ambitious Godhan Nyay Yojana launched in 2020.
