Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday said the State capital would be shifted to Visakhapatnam. Addressing the preparatory meeting for the Global Investors Summit to be held in Visakhapatnam in March, Jagan said he would be shifting his office to the port city in the months to come. "Here I am to invite you to Visakhapatnam which is going to be our capital in the days to come. I myself would also be shifting over to Visakhapatnam in the months to come," he said. Amaravati is the present capital of Andhra Pradesh. In November last year, Jagan Mohan Reddy government repealed the controversial AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020 intended to establish three capitals for the State. The State government had proposed three capitals, Visakhapatnam (Executive capital), Amaravati (Legislative capital) and Kurnool (Judicial capital). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually flag off a Vande Bharat train between Secunderabad and Visakhapatnam on January 15, Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy has said. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Kishan Reddy would be present at the Secunderabad railway station here for the inaugural service. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually flag off the prestigious Vande Bharat train from Secunderabad Railway Station on 15th January at 10.00 AM as a gift to the Telugu people on the occasion of Sankranti," Kishan Reddy said in a release on Wednesday night. The eighth Vande Bharat train in the country will run between Secunderabad and Visakhapatnam in approximately eight hours. The intermediate stops envisaged for the train include Warangal, Khammam, Vijayawada and Rajahmundry, the release added.
Ground is now fully cleared for the much-delayed Visakhapatnam International Airport project to take off. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's Office has written to the Prime Minister's Office requesting that Narendra Modi lay the foundation stone, possibly virtually, for the new airport construction during his visit to port city Visakhapatnam on November 12. But the PMO has not included it in Modi's itinerary, official sources said. Development of the new international airport in Public-Private Partnership mode at Bhogapuram, 40-km northeast of Visakhapatnam, was first mooted in the year 2014, post-bifurcation of the state as the existing one in the city is owned by the Indian Navy. As Cyclone "Jawad" is expected to hit North Andhra Pradesh on early Saturday morning, three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed in Vishakhapatnam on Friday.Speaking to ANI, NDRF Sub-inspector Satyanarayan said, "We are a total of three teams that are deployed here. Two other teams are kept as reserves. We shall respond to any untoward situation to rescue people and do our best to avoid any mishap or loss. We shall clear all the roads of any debris if there are any landslides or uprooting of trees.
