Om Prakash Rajbhar is not "untouchable" for BJP, Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, the party president for Uttar Pradesh, has said. Chaudhary's remark comes in the backdrop of a recent meeting between Rajbhar, the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party Chief, and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak in Lucknow. "No one is untouchable for BJP. Whoever agrees with the views of the BJP, the party is ready to take him with it. BJP is a big ocean. Rajbhar is our old friend," Chaudhary told reporters on Wednesday, responding to BJP's prospects of an alliance with Omprakash Rajbhar's party. Rajbhar had fought the last assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in alliance with the Samajwadi Party, but later parted ways. Since then his party's stand toward BJP has softened. The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a statewide 100-day 'UP Global City' campaign to make urban bodies of the state on par with global standards, an official release said on Sunday. The campaign was launched by Urban Development Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma on Saturday. "The campaign, launched in all 762 urban bodies of the state, looks at improving cleanliness and air quality, ensuring proper garbage disposal, beautification and installation of adequate signages on roads, among others, to make the urban system of the state on par with global standards," the release said. During the campaign, work on increasing urban facilities and beautifying the cities will be done on a war footing in all the districts of the state. A local court has convicted 10 accused, including a former minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, in a 2017 case of assault with the intent to kill a BJP candidate. The court has also declared nine accused, including former minister Bhagwat Saran Gangwar, absconding. The other accused who was also convicted is out on bail. Ten people, including Bhagwat Saran Gangwar, were booked for assault with the intention to kill BJP candidate Kesar Singh Gangwar and his associates in February 2017. Kesar Singh Gangwar was contesting from the district's Nawabganj assembly constituency, Special Public Prosecutor Auchitya Dwivedi said on Thursday. The Uttar Pradesh government has no plans to give unemployment allowance in the state, Labour and Employment Minister said here on Friday. Anil Rajbhar was replying to a question raised by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Umashankar Singh in the legislative assembly. Singh asked about the number of unemployed youths presently registered in the state who have been given employment and whether the government will consider giving unemployment allowance to the remaining unemployed youths. In his response, the labour and employment minister said there is a system of registration of candidates interested in employment on the employment department portal on which a total of 25,39,619 candidates have registered themselves from March 19, 2017 to September 12, 2022. Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly on Friday passed the Code of Criminal Procedure (Uttar Pradesh Amendment) Bill 2022 which bars granting of anticipatory bail to rape accused. UP Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, while speaking on the amendment bill in the house, said that a provision has been made to not grant anticipatory bail to those accused of offences under the POCSO Act and 'durachaar' (misconduct) with women. Denying anticipatory bail in sexual offenses against young people and women will reduce the chances of the accused destroying the evidence, he said. The provision will also help prevent the accused from intimidating or harassing the victim and other witnesses, Khanna said. The assembly also passed the Uttar Pradesh Public and Private Property Damage Recovery (Amendment) Bill, 2022 which extends the time period in which a claim can be filed from existing three months to three years. The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought a response from the Uttar Pradesh government on a plea by Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, seeking bail in a case related to the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. On October 3 last year, eight people were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri during violence that erupted when farmers were protesting against Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's visit to the area. Four farmers were mowed down by an SUV, in which Ashish Mishra was seated, according to the UP Police FIR. The Supreme Court on Monday sought response from the Uttar Pradesh government on the bail plea of Kerala-based journalist Siddique Kappan, arrested in October 2020 while on his way to Hathras where a Dalit woman had died after allegedly being gang-raped. A bench comprising Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and S Ravindra Bhat fixed the plea for final disposal on September 9. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had earlier this month rejected the bail application of Kappan, who was booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the alleged Hathras conspiracy case. The FIR had been filed under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the UAPA against four persons having alleged links with the Popular Front of India (PFI). The PFI had been accused in the past of funding protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act across the country. The police had earlier claimed that the accused was trying to disturb the law and order in Hathras.
