It said that only the export of onion seed is restricted. "Government has not restricted or prohibited the export of onions," the ministry said in a statement. In December 2022, onion exports rose by about 50 per cent to USD 52.1 million. During April-December this fiscal, the exports rose by 16.3 per cent to USD 523.8 million. The statement came after a tweet by NCP leader Supriya Sule on February 25 on onion exports.
An offence has been registered 22 persons for allegedly shouting slogans and pelting stones at Maharashtra Minister Abdul Sattar's residence to protest his alleged comment against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule, police said on Tuesday. An offence was registered against 22 protestors, 17 of whom have been identified, at Begumpura police station on Monday night, an official said. The state agriculture minister on Monday stoked a controversy with his alleged objectionable remarks against Sule, triggering protests by NCP workers in various cities. Stones were hurled at Sattar's residences in Aurangabad city and Mumbai, while demonstrations were held against him in his hometown Sillod, Pune, Thane, Aurangabad, Jalna, Nagpur and Pandharpur, officials said. A case under sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code has been registered, the official said. Nationalist Congress Party Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule on Thursday demanded that the Maharashtra government declare a 'wet drought' in the state to give relief to farmers facing losses due to heavy rains. "The excess rainfall in various parts of Maharashtra damaged the crops and turned farms into lakes. It is my request to Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to declare wet drought in the state," the Baramati MP tweeted. Diwali was a "dark period" for farmers as produce could not harvested in time and rotted, she further said. "The state should positively consider making direct financial assistance to farmers along with announcing wet drought, Sule added. Heavy rains in several parts of western and central Maharashtra last week damaged Kharif crops, which were stored in the open after cutting or were ready for harvesting.
The Nationalist Congress Party on Saturday accused the spokesperson of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction of sharing a "morphed" photo of Baramati MP Supriya Sule sitting in the chief minister's chair, flanked by two former Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) ministers, and urged the Mumbai police to take action. NCP office-bearer, Aditi Nalawde, filed an online complaint with the suburban Worli police station and demanded appropriate action against the concerned Twitter handle used for posting Sule's picture and the person who posted it. Nalawade stated that the photo was posted to malign the image of the elected representative. Incidentally, the NCP on Friday accused Lok Sabha MP Shrikant Shinde, son of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, of sitting in a chair meant for his father, although the parliamentarian from Kalyan had claimed the picture had been taken at the office at their private residence. Sule's photo in which she is seen sitting in the chair meant for the chief minister was tweet
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday said that fixing 41 per cent as share of states from the divisible pool of taxes should not be seen as a "reduction" but was a result of one state becoming two Union territories. Her remarks came in response to a query in Lok Sabha about the allocation by NCP member Supriya Sule. States' share coming down to 41 per cent from 42 per cent should not be read as a reduction, the minister said. "42 per cent was the devolution formula based on the Finance Commission's recommendations as states' share but when there is one less state, which has become a Union territory... to that extent that one per cent was brought down," she said during an intervention on Budget discussion. It is because that portion has to be added to Union territories to which the Centre distributes, she added Jammu & Kashmir has been converted into Union territories of J&K and Ladakh. "So, kindly don't read as reduction in devolution of quantum... if there is one ..
