Suicide Bombing

At least four soldiers were killed and 22 others, including employees of a petroleum company, were injured in a suicide attack in Pakistan's restive northwestern region on Saturday, police said. The incident happened in the country's North Waziristan tribal district when the suicide bomber riding a tri-wheeler laden with bomb hit the vehicle of security forces that was escorting employees of a petroleum company. The suicide bomber riding a tri wheeler hit vehicle of the security forces on duty with MPCL Petroleum Company in Khajori Chowk in North Waziristan tribal district bordering Afghanistan. Four soldiers were killed and 22 others which included 15 employees of the company were injured, a senior police official said. The employees of Petroleum Company were on their way back to their rest place under tight security after duty hours when the bomber ambushed one of the force's vehicle escorting them. The MPCL Company is engaged in exploration of oil in the area.

The death toll from the suicide blast rose to at least 100 on Tuesday after rescue workers retrieved more bodies from the debris of the devastated mosque inside a major police facility in Pakistan's northwestern Peshawar city. According to security officials, the suicide bomber who was present in the front row during the Zuhr (afternoon) prayers on Monday blew himself up, causing the roof to collapse on the worshippers. Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) spokesperson Mohammad Asim said that 100 bodies had been brought to the medical facility. Asim said 53 injured were currently being treated while seven had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). He said that most of the injured were out of danger. At least 50 people were injured when a suicide attacker blew himself up at a mosque here in the capital of Pakistan's restive province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, officials said. The blast occurred near the Police Lines area around 1.40 pm when the Zuhr prayers were being offered, the Dawn newspaper reported. According to security officials, the suicide attacker was present in the front row during the prayers when he exploded himself, injuring dozens of people offering prayers. The injured are being shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, the officials said. Hospital sources said 13 of those injured were in a critical condition. An emergency has been imposed in the locality and the area has been cordoned off.

Two persons, including a soldier, were killed and nine others wounded in a suicide blast in Pakistan's restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan, the military said on Thursday. The blast took place in Miranshah town in North Waziristan. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement said that a soldier and a civilian were killed in the blast. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the remote border area is a former stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban. With the Taliban taking control of neighbouring Afghanistan, incidents of terror have increased in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the incident. Expressing his grief and sorrow over the lives lost in the incident, he said: Those carrying out suicide attacks on Muslims cannot be Muslims.

A man blew himself up on Wednesday at a police station on Indonesia's main island of Java in what appeared to be the latest in a string of suicide attacks in the world's most populous Muslim nation. Bandung City Police Chief Aswin Sipayung said a man entered the Astana Anyar police station with a motorcycle and detonated explosives as police were lining up for morning assembly. West Java Police spokesperson Ibrahim Tompo said the man was entering the station when he detonated his explosive, instantly killing himself and an officer.
