Build highways, but don't ignore medical infrastructure

This is mainly due to lower investments in rural roads via the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and moderation in awarding by the National Highways Authority of India

This includes 1,161 km for the current financial year against the total sanctioned road length of 19,700 km

Those who have travelled to villages on these roads will know what a relief it is

Under the PMGSY-III Scheme, it is proposed to consolidate 125,000 km road length in the states

Centre, states to share the amount in 60:40 ratio to link unconnected rural habitations and upgrade existing roads till 2020

The Chief Secretary also laid stress on ensuring quality of construction of roads, particularly in tribal and hill areas

Auditor said works were abandoned or remained incomplete due to incorrect alignment, land disputes etc
