The government on Wednesday said 18,890 complaints have been received on National Consumer Helpline since 2017 against cab aggregators Ola and Uber. "441 grievances have been received on PG (Public Grievance) portal and 18,890 complaints received on National Consumer Helpline from January 1, 2017 to March 31, 2023 against Ola and Uber," Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs Ashwini Kumar Choubey said in a written reply to Lok Sabha. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to Ola and Uber on concerns related with deficiency in service, inadequate consumer grievance redressal mechanism, unreasonable levy of cancellation charge and lack of any information on the algorithm, he added.
Ola Electric on Tuesday said it is giving an option to buyers to upgrade their scooters with new front fork amidst concern among them regarding safety of the part. In a tweet, the company noted that there have been some concerns amongst the community around the safety of the Ola S1's front fork arm. "We assure you that this is unfounded. At Ola, all components of our scooters, including the front arm, are thoroughly tested under extreme conditions and are engineered with a factor of safety much higher than the typical loads encountered on vehicles," the Bengaluru-based company stated. However, as part of continuous engineering and design improvement process, the company has recently upgraded the front fork design to enhance the durability and strength even further, it added. "To alleviate any concerns that you or any of our community members might have, we are giving an option to our customers to upgrade to the new front fork," the company said. Ride-hailing service providers Ola and Uber have applied to the Maharashtra government for aggregator licences, a Regional Transport Office (RTO) official said here on Friday. Sets of guidelines brought out by the Centre and the Maharashtra government mandate such app-based companies to obtain a licence. Currently, the government cannot efficiently take action in case of violations by these operators and a licence could change that situation. Acting on a directive of the Supreme Court, the ride-hailing service firms have applied for aggregator licences at Mumbai's Tardeo RTO, which has jurisdiction over the entire island city, the official said. Bharat Kalaskar, regional transport officer from Tardeo RTO, told PTI that they received applications from Ola and Uber for aggregator licences 3-4 days ago. Ola Fleet Technologies on Tuesday said it has partnered with Dbest Cars India to dispose of its used commercial fleet vehicles in a deal worth over Rs 125 crore. As the largest radio taxi company in India, Ola Fleet Technologies, is undertaking the process to dispose of over 5,000 used commercial cars through the services of Dbest Cars India. "We are in process of disposing of our existing fleet which is now obsolete and for the same we have selected Dbest Cars to be our partner," Ola Director (Risks & Brand Protection) Gulshan Rao said in a statement.
