Owners of more than 1,100 vehicles, including cars and two-wheelers, landed in the police net over violation of various road safety norms across Noida and Greater Noida on Holi, police officials said on Thursday. Around 30 vehicles were impounded and owners of at least five of them penalised hefty amounts ranging between Rs 17,000 to Rs 33,000 for "stunts" and recklessness like car occupants hanging from the windows, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav said. "Throughout Wednesday, around 475 traffic police personnel including inspectors, sub-inspectors and constables remained on duty across Gautam Buddh Nagar to keep a check on violations of rules, the officer said. He said 650 challans were issued for two-wheeler rides without helmet, 265 for triple-riding, 75 each for drunk driving and wrong-side driving, while 25 car owners were penalised for having black films on their windows. The Noida Authority on Wednesday announced a hike in land purchase rate from farmers to Rs 5,324 per square metres from the existing Rs 5,060 per square metres. The authority also said that it would bring a scheme to facilitate resettlement of dues in group housing projects and sports city plots to help home buyers with the registry. It further amended provisions related to time extension for completion of projects by real estate developers. The decisions were taken during the 208th board meeting of the Noida Authority chaired by Uttar Pradesh Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner Arvind Kumar. The Noida Authority has issued a notice to real estate developer DLF to pay Rs 235 crore as compensation to the previous owner of the land on which the Mall of India has been built, a senior official said Monday. The DLF, however, said it was yet to receive the communication. The development comes in the backdrop of a Supreme Court order on May 5 in which it had directed the Noida Authority to ensure payment of compensation for the land to its previous owner Veerana Redyy. "Yes," Noida Authority CEO Ritu Maheshwari told PTI, confirming that the notice has been issued. Another senior official told PTI that the notice was issued to DLF on December 23 and the amount has to be remitted in 15 days. A fire broke out at a multi-storey building of a call centre here on Friday morning , officials said. The incident was reported around 7.45 am from a building located in A block of Sector 3, Noida chief fire officer Arun Kumar Singh Five people who were caught up due to smoke and fire in the building were rescued by the fire fighters, Singh said, adding no casualty was reported. "Four fire tenders were rushed to the site. The fire had broken out on the second floor of the building, he said. The fire was completely doused and assessment of loss to property besides cause of the fire was underway, the officer said. The local fire service department had recently carried out an inspection drive to review fire safety systems and equipment installed in commercial spaces. Notices were issued to multiple establishments where fire safety systems were not found up to the mark, according to officials.

The final review of preparations for demolition of Supertech's illegal twin towers was done on Thursday and they will be razed as per schedule on August 28 at 2.30 pm, Noida Authority CEO Ritu Maheshwari said. The Noida Authority, which functions under the Uttar Pradesh government, is overseeing the demolition of the nearly 100-metre-tall structures in Sector 93A of the city. Maheshwari visited Emerald Court and a meeting was held with all stakeholders including local residents' groups and other agencies concerned. "The meeting was to get an overview of the preparations, technical aspects of demolition and compliances left to be completed for the safe demolition of the towers," the senior IAS officer said. Speaking to reporters outside the twin towers, Maheshwari said, "The twin towers would be demolished at 2.30 pm on August 28 in compliance of the order of the Supreme Court." Supertech's illegal twin towers in Noida, which are taller than Delhi's Qutub Minar, will become India's highest structures ever to be demolished on August 28. The buildings measuring a little over 100 metres will literally collapse like a house of cards in a process that would take less than 15 seconds for them to come down, according to project officials. The demolition would be done through a controlled implosion technique for which over 3,700 kg of explosive will be used in the eye-popping event that would also leave behind a whopping 55,000 tonnes of debris to be managed. Mumbai-based Edifice Engineering along with their South African partner firm Jet Demolitions is carrying out the job, which is certain to make it into civil engineering feats of the world. On Saturday, 325 kg of explosives was brought to Noida amid tight security to be used in the August 28 demolition of the Supertech twin towers.
The green panel noted that out of the 95 group housing societies in Noida, 56 have sewage treatment facility or partial treatment facility and untreated sewage directly goes into the drain.
