Mercedes-Benz is the market leader in the luxury car market of India with about 44 per cent share

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz expects India to be its fastest growing market globally, maintaining the feat that it had achieved last year as well, according to a senior company official. Mercedes-Benz India, which had planned to launch ten new products this year, is delaying some of the launches, pushing it to the second and third quarters of 2023 (calender year) due to supply chain constraints with an aim to avoid further increasing the waiting period of its products. "I still see India to be shining among all the other countries. When we see our global reports the growth is still there in India even in the first two months of the year. (It is) too early to call for the full year but if I have to go by the first two months results, it is quite strong and positive compared to many other markets across the world," Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director & CEO Santosh Iyer told PTI. He was responding to a query on whether India can continue to be the company's fastest growing .

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz will launch ten new vehicles in India in 2023 with majority in the over Rs 1-crore price category, which grew over 69 per cent last year, according to a senior company official. Mercedes-Benz India, which posted a record sales in 2022 at 15,822 units, had sold over 3,500 cars that are priced above Rs 1 crore last year. In 2021, Mercedes-Benz India had sold 11,242 units. Its previous best sales was achieved in 2018 at 15,583 units. The company is looking at an overall double-digit sales growth this year, and as part of the drive it launched its 'AMG E53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet' model priced at Rs 1.3 crore on Friday. Luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India recorded a profit after tax of Rs 441.4 crore in the fiscal ended March 31, 2022, after two years of losses, according to financial data accessed by business intelligence platform Tofler. The company, which is not a publicly listed entity, had posted a loss after tax of Rs 107.1 crore and Rs 86.5 crore in 2020-21 and 2019-20 respectively. Revenue from operations in FY22 were at Rs 6,188.5 crore. This was the company's highest revenue after FY19 when it had clocked Rs 6,314.3 crore with a profit after tax of Rs 311.4 crore. In the fiscal ended March 31, 2021, the company's revenue from operations had dipped to Rs 3,639 crore with the pandemic impacting vehicle sales. In FY20, the company's revenue from operations was at Rs 4,819 crore, as per the Tofler data. German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz on Wednesday reported a 28 per cent rise in sales in India at 11,469 units in the January to September period this year, surpassing what it sold in the whole of 2021. The company had sold 8,958 units in the same period last year, Mercedes-Benz India said in a statement. "Our sales are at pre-pandemic level, having crossed CY 2021 sales numbers in the first nine months this year. The current market momentum gives us the confidence for striving to achieve our highest sales ever," Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director & CEO Martin Schwenk said.
