Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reviewed the education system in MCD schools on Thursday and said they will be upgraded on the lines of Delhi government schools in the next five years. Chairing a high-level meeting with Education Minister Atishi and MCD officials, Kejriwal emphasised the need for a significant overhaul of the infrastructure of the schools run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. During the meeting, Kejriwal said even the best schools of MCD fail to match the standard of Delhi government schools. Amid a rise in COVID-19 cases, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Wednesday said all civic-run hospitals are "fully prepared" to deal with the coronavirus situation and appealed to people not to panic. The mayor was interacting with reporters at the Civic Centre here a day after Delhi recorded 521 COVID-19 cases -- the highest single-day rise since August 27 last year -- and one fatality. As the standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is yet to be elected, services of three 'third parties' have been discontinued by the civic body from April 1 onwards, and they have been directed to withdraw data entry operators and other contractual workers engaged through them, official sources said on Monday. Earlier, a group of BJP councillors protested at the Civic Centre -- MCD's headquarters -- and alleged that "services of contract workers have been discontinued". Delhi BJP on Friday alleged that files on the extension of contractual civic workers have been "withheld", following which they will not be able to work from April 1 onwards. The office of Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi, however, in a statement later said directions have been issued to senior officials to "extend the services" of such MCD employees. The civic body plans to renovate a thousand big parks here in the next six months by installing green patching and refurbishing gym facilities wherever required, an official said on Friday. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) looks after 15,000 parks, including 1,000 big ones. A park is considered "big" if it is more than an acre in size. The renovation will include installing green patches and refurbishing the open gym and swings in the parks, the official said. The parks will be developed in a phased manner. A special meeting called at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi headquarters on Tuesday to discuss and deliberate on the civic budget was adjourned for the day soon after it convened. Mayor Shelly Oberoi said the session would resume at 2 pm on Wednesday. A few members had said that they did not get adequate time to go through the budget document and so time has been allowed till the session resumes on Wednesday, she said. In a first, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will use drones to survey properties in the city's industrial areas for tax assessment, officials said on Tuesday. This will help in verifying details submitted by residents of their properties while paying tax, an MCD official said. The MCD has invited bids to conduct a drone-based survey through an agency for the purpose of tax assessment. The last date to submit a bid is March 16. This will be the first time that the MCD will be utilising drones to survey properties falling in industrial areas in the national capital. The MCD has decided to use drones after the success of a pilot project last year. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has taken an initiative to distribute sanitary napkins to women sanitation workers every month, officials said on Thursday. The NDMC chairperson has approved the proposal of the public health and welfare departments to distribute sanitary napkins to them.
