The Indian arm of the British multinational retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) on Wednesday said that it has strong growth plans to ramp up stores in India amid reports of outlet closure back home due to challenging times. Marks & Spencer in India is a 51:49 JV between UK's M&S and Reliance since 2008. The company denied reports of foraying into the food business in India, terming them as speculative and said, it will focus on the home category, launched recently. "We will turbocharge our growth in India. We want to make sure customers get value in our apparel and home products," M&S Reliance India managing director Ritesh Mishra said. The company has plans to open one store a month, he said. Mishra was in the city to open the company's 95th store and third in Kolkata. Retailer Marks & Spencer India on Wednesday said Ritesh Mishra has been appointed as Managing Director for Marks & Spencer Reliance India Pvt Ltd. Mishra, previously Head of Operations and Property, takes over from James Munson who will now assume the role of M&S International Retail Director in the UK, the company said in a statement. Munson had led the India business for the past five years, overseeing significant growth of M&S across India, including a 50 per cent increase in the number of stores, which currently stands at 91 stores in 34 cities across the country. Mishra will continue to steer M&S from the India support office in Gurgaon, Haryana, and report to Munson, it added. Tech titan IBM on Thursday announced it is helping Marks & Spencer Reliance India (M&S India) modernise its supply chain to drive seamless integration between online and in-store business for improved customer experience. M&S is scaling its omnichannel capabilities in India with IBM Sterling Supply Chain Solutions, a joint statement said. It did not divulge the size of the contract. "The company is driving faster delivery of products to customers by streamlining the order fulfilment process using IBM Sterling's Order Management. British retailer Marks & Spencer on Thursday announced the launch of its homeware collection in India across its select stores and the website, apart from e-commerce channel partners AJIO and Myntra. The company is targeting urban consumers through its homeware collection, said Marks & Spencer Reliance India Managing Director James Munson. Munson added that after the pandemic, people have a new-found connection to their homes. The collection will offer products in beddings, bathrooms, wellness and dining category, according to a statement. "We are targeting urban consumers who are quality connoisseurs and are seeking value for their money. Those who aspire for contemporary and beautiful homes and yet want solutions that are designed to last using materials sourced with care," he said. British multinational retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) is on an aggressive pace here and is opening six more stores in the next two months alone, a top company official has said. Marks & Spencer has opened its first store here way back in 2001 and in April 2008 signed a joint venture agreement with Reliance Retail to form Marks & Spencer Reliance India. It now has 71 stores across 30 cities like New Delhi, Amritsar, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Kochi, Bhopal, Kanpur, Hyderabad and Chandigarh among others. "India has become increasingly an important market for us. We are now the largest market for M&S outside of our home market. We are 71 stores today and we continue to invest in this market.
