Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday approved Rs 37 crore for various projects that aim to increase irrigation efficiency and prevent water wastage in canals and dams. As part of the projects, the Kagdi dam in Banswara district will be renovated at a cost of Rs 10 crore. Another Rs 11.73 crore will be used to line the canal from the Gajadharpura sewage treatment plant to Kalakh dam in Jaipur's Kalwad tehsil, the government said in a statement. The canal from Mora Sagar dam Sawaimadhopur district's in Bamanwas tehsil will be lined at an estimated cost of Rs 15.03 crore, it said. The projects will allow improved irrigation efficiency and minimise water wastage. In the Budget for 2022-23, Gehlot had announced projects worth Rs 800 crore for the renovation of dams and canals. Of these, works worth Rs 611.95 crore have been approved.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the 'Prati Boond-Adhik Fasal' scheme started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought focus on increasing water-use efficiency in farming, adding that micro irrigation led to a 52-per cent increase in the state's fruit and vegetable yields. Khattar said various schemes are being run through the Micro Irrigation and Command Area Development Authority (MICADA) for water conservation and its judicious and economical use, according to a statement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started the 'Prati Boond-Adhik Fasal' scheme, Khattar said, and added, "The focus is on increasing water-use efficiency at the farm level through micro-irrigation -- that is drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. "Micro-irrigation systems are invaluable for farming. With this, there is a considerable increase in the area irrigated from the same source of water." The Kerala government has said that it was carrying out studies and making efforts to implement micro-irrigation projects in the state to ensure availability of water for cash crops, like cocoa, castor and cloves, in the hilly areas. Kerala Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine announced this initiative of the state government after inaugurating a weir-cum-tractor way constructed at Alakkad Parakkadavu across the Eryam River in Kadannappally-Panapuzha Grama Panchayat in Kannur district of the state. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday sought Rs 10,485.38 crore from the Centre as ad hoc payment for Polavaram irrigation project besides clearing Rs 2,937.92 crore pending bills which was already spent by the State government on the project. Engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Monday said it has bagged a significant project from Jharkhand government for irrigation. The project envisages to provide water to irrigate 22,283 hectare of Culturable Command Area (CCA) in Dumka district of Jharkhand by way of pumping water from the Sidheshwari river. The scope includes survey, design, and constructing a barrage across the river. "The water & effluent treatment business of L&T Construction has secured a repeat EPC order from the Department of Water Resources, Government of Jharkhand, to execute the Masalia Ranishwar Megalift irrigation scheme on a turnkey basis," the company said in statement. The company is already executing a similar lift irrigation project in Jharkhand's Garhwa district. As per the company, a contract valued at Rs 1,000-2,500 crore is categorised as a significant order. L&T is an Indian multinational engaged in engineering, procurement, and construction projects.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao Tuesday said the Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP) would be filled with water from the Kaleswaram lift irrigation project this year itself. Setting ambitious targets for officials, the chief minister asked them to expedite the work on construction of a pump house at Rampur in Jagtial district to fill the SRSP with water. Rao, who visited and reviewed the progress of work on the Sriram Sagar Revival Scheme as part of the Kaleswaram project (on Godavari river), said the construction of the pump house at Rampur is an important component of SRSP revival scheme.
