The road transport and highways sector has the maximum number of delayed projects at 407, followed by railways at 114 and the petroleum industry at 86, showed a government report. In the road transport and highways sector, 407 out of 717 projects are delayed. For railways, out of 173 projects, 114 are delayed, while in the petroleum sector, 86 out of 146 projects are running behind schedule, as per the latest flash report on infrastructure projects for February 2023. The Infrastructure and Project Monitoring Division (IPMD) is mandated to monitor central sector infrastructure projects costing Rs 150 crore and above based on the information provided on the Online Computerised Monitoring System (OCMS) by the project implementing agencies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate several infrastructure projects, including the state-of-the-art integrated terminal building at the Chennai airport, upon his arrival in the state on Saturday. Security has been beefed up across the city in view of the visit while motorists have been asked to plan ahead of their journey to reach their destination as elaborate traffic diversions have been made, police said. Japan on Tuesday committed Rs 7,084.5 crore to India for three infrastructure projects, including Patna Metro Rail Construction Project and Rajasthan Water Sector Livelihood Improvement Project. Notes in this regard were exchanged between Rajat Kumar Mishra, Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs and Japan Ambassador to India Suzuki Hiroshi, an official statement said. As many as 346 infrastructure projects, each entailing an investment of Rs 150 crore or more, have been hit by cost overruns of more than Rs 4.46 lakh crore, as per an official report. According to Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, which monitors infrastructure projects worth Rs 150 crore and above, out of 1,418 projects, 346 reported cost overruns and as many as 823 projects were delayed. " Total original cost of implementation of the 1,418 projects was Rs 20,38,026.75 crore and their anticipated completion cost is likely to be Rs 24,84,846.99 crore, which reflects overall cost overruns of Rs 4,46,820.24 crore (21.92 per cent of original cost)," the ministry's latest report for February 2023 said. Work on a 23-km stretch from Banihal to Hingni on the prestigious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL) project in Jammu and Kashmir is likely to be completed by the end of June, an official said. The USBRL project is aimed at providing seamless and hassle-free connectivity to Kashmir valley. Out of the total 272-km USBRL project, 161 km was commissioned in phases with first phase of 118-km Qazigund-Baramulla section commissioned in October 2009 followed by 18-km Banihal-Qazigund in June 2013 and 25-km Udhampur-Katra in July 2014. According to Northern Railways, 93 percent work on the under-construction 111-km Banihal-Katra section has been completed. The construction work of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will be complete by the end of December this year, reducing the journey time between the two cities to two hours, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said. "Work on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway project will be over by December end and from January 1 next year people will be travelling from Dehradun to Delhi in just two hours," Gadkari said during a visit to Parmarth Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh on Sunday. A journey from Dehradun to Delhi at present takes around six hours. GMR Airports Infrastructure on Tuesday reported a consolidated profit after tax of Rs 104.82 crore in the December quarter, against a loss of Rs 515.34 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. The revenue from operations during the quarter under review grew 29 per cent to Rs 1,766.36 crore from Rs 1,364.13 crore in the third quarter of fiscal 2021-22, GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd said in a regulatory filing. On a standalone basis, the company reported a loss of Rs 9.61 crore in Q3 FY23 from Rs 706.23 crore in the October-December period of FY22, while revenue from operations stood at Rs 28.44 crore as against Rs 8.85 crore earlier.

The ongoing indefinite strike by water tankers in Mumbai in protest against the implementation of Central guidelines for bulk water supply has affected water supply for major infrastructure projects, hotels, malls and clubs, an association member claimed on Tuesday. Ankur Sharma, the spokesperson for Mumbai Water Tankers Association (MWTA), told PTI that Mumbai (suburban) guardian minister Mangalprabhat Lodha has convened a meeting later in the day to resolve the sand-off which will be attended by officials of the Mumbai civic body and the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA).
