Bristol Myers Squibb, a world's leading biopharmaceutical company will establish a state of-the-art site here to expand its global drug development and IT capabilities with an investment of Rs 800 crore, a Telangana government press release said on Thursday. The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) on Thursday said it has processed 2,767 complaints since coming up with influencer guidelines in May 2021. More than half of the violations have been found on Meta-owned Instagram platform, while Alphabet's Youtube contributed a third of them, the self-regulatory organisation for the advertising industry said. The body said in over 90 per cent of the cases, there were modifications required. "...the Central Consumer Protection Authorities also now require disclosure of material connection between brands and influencers. Hence, non-disclosures are potential violations of the law," the body's chief executive and secretary general Manisha Kapoor said. The IT ministry has given 48 hours to banned websites and apps to prove their genuineness, a senior government official said on Thursday. Another senior official from the ministry said the ban has been imposed on the platforms because their businesses were not genuine. "Why would there be any ban if they were genuine? Action has been taken on them," the ministry official said. The government last week ordered blocking of 232 apps operated by overseas entities, including Chinese, for being involved in betting, gambling and unauthorised loan services. "They have been given 48 hours under the rule to submit documents. The decision will be taken based on their presentation. It is going on now," another senior official said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that domestic patent filings have outscored the country's foreign patent filings as he expressed confidence that India's dream of "techade" will be fulfilled on the strength of its innovators. This underscores the country's increasing scientific capabilities, he said in the first episode of 'Mann ki Baat' in the new year . Modi has in the past used "techade" to describe the decade being dominated by technologies and India making most of it. He said India's rank in patent filling is seventh globally while it is fifth in trademark registration. India's patent registration has risen by 50 per cent in the last five years, the prime minister said, noting that its ranking in the global innovation index has surged to 40 from below 80 in 2015. "I am confident that India's dream of techade will be fulfilled by its innovators and their patents," he said.
