If a married woman is asked to do household work for the family, the same cannot be equated to the work of a maid servant and would not amount to cruelty, the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court said while quashing a case lodged by a woman against her estranged husband and his parents for domestic violence and cruelty. A division bench of Justices Vibha Kankanwadi and Rajesh Patil, on October 21, quashed the First Information Report lodged against the man and his parents. The woman, in her complaint, had alleged she was was treated properly for a month after marriage, but thereafter, they began treating her like a maid servant. She also claimed her husband and his parents, a month after the marriage, started demanding Rs 4 lakh to buy a four-wheeler. In her complaint, the woman said she was then subjected to mental and physical harassment by her husband over this demand. President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday said women are today marching forward in all areas with determination and hard work. Women are excelling in every field, be it guarding the country's borders or flying aircraft, and they are making the country proud, she said in an address at a civic reception hosted in her honour at the Punjab Raj Bhavan here. "Our daughters are marching forward in all areas with determination...they are excelling in every field. From guarding the country's borders to being fighter plane pilots, and from being entrepreneurs to IAS and IPS officers, and doctors They are moving ahead in all fields," Murmu said. Army Chief General M M Naravane on Wednesday underlined the need to open all vistas of the Indian society, be it the corporate sector or the Army, for women. We will also be having the first batch of women combat pilots graduating later this year, he said at an event of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) here. The Army chief noted that the Indian society cannot take shelter in outdated customs that deny fair play to any gender. We need to open all vistas for women in the Indian society be it corporate sector or the Army, he stated. Women officers have been serving the Indian Army for a long time and we have given them multiple assignments, giving them exposure to various fields, he said. Naravane said women officers will also serve in command roles once their turn comes. Quality is gender-neutral, there are only two types of officers good officers and bad officers, he added.
Online food ordering platform Zomato on Friday said it will increase the number of women in its delivery service to 10 per cent by the end of the year as part of its workplace inclusivity initiatives. In a blog on its website, Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal said at present only about 0.5 per cent of its delivery partners are women. "Today, we are taking our first step towards increasing the participation of women delivery partners in our fleet. To begin with, we have set ourselves a goal of reaching 10 per cent participation by the end of 2021 starting with Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune," he wrote. Stating that Zomato has always been "about being a more inclusive workplace", he said, "So far, our inclusive workplace initiatives haven't taken into consideration the fact that only about 0.5 per cent of our delivery partners are women."
