Actor Sameer Khakhar, best known for playing the lovable drunk Khopdi in the classic 1980s TV serial "Nukkad", died at a hospital here in the early hours of Wednesday due to multiple organ failure. The actor, who was most recently seen in the Prime Video series "Farzi" and moved to the US in the 1990s for a few years to become a software developer, was 71. Sameer Khakhar was admitted to MM Hospital in Borivali in suburban Mumbai on Tuesday morning following respiratory issues, his younger brother Ganesh Khakhar told PTI. "He had respiratory problems since yesterday and later became unconscious. We called the doctor at home and were asked to hospitalise him. He was admitted to the intensive care unit of MM Hospital," he said. "Slowly and gradually, he suffered multiple organ failure. He was unconscious and then he collapsed. He passed away at 4.30 am today," Ganesh Khakhar added. The last rites were conducted at a Borivali crematorium in the presence of his family and some friends

Information and Broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur has said that nearly 1,300 feature and 1,062 short films and documentaries have been digitised under the National Film Heritage Mission (NFHM). Thakur, who reviewed the progress made under the Mission during his visit to the National Film Archives of India in Pune on Saturday, said an additional 2,500 feature and shorts films and documentaries were in the pipeline to be digitized. Till date, 1,293 feature and 1,062 shorts and documentaries have been digitized in 4K and 2K resolution, an official statement said. It said conservation works on 1,433 celluloid reels have been completed in collaboration with an International Agency, L'immagine Ritrovata, the world's foremost expert in film conservation. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's "Pathaan" has become the all-time number one Hindi film in India by raising Rs 1028 crore worldwide since its release in January, said Yash Raj Films (YRF). According to the studio, the Siddharth Anand directorial raised Rs 1.07 crore nett in India (Hindi 1.05 crore, all dubbed versions 0.02 crore) on its sixth Friday.
