India and Mauritius on Friday discussed cooperation between the two countries in the area of urban development and to strengthen it further.Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri met his Mauritian counterpart Louis Steven Obeegadoo and vowed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries."Received the Deputy PM and Minister Housing & Land Use Planning of Mauritius HE Louis Steven Obeegadoo in my office today. We discussed the ongoing cooperation between our two countries in the area of urban development & strengthening it further," tweeted Puri.India-Mauritius relationship is very significant for India's geostrategic policies in the Indian Ocean Region.Recently, India and Mauritius jointly inaugurated an India-assisted social housing units project in Mauritius virtually as part of India's development support.In recent years, India has stepped up its engagement with Africa. Mauritius is an important partner among the Indian Ocean littoral .
Mauritius will receive a consignment of Covaxin, India's indigenously developed COVID-19 vaccine, on Friday, announced the High Commission of India in Port Louis on Thursday.Taking to Twitter, the High Commission said that India stands strong with Mauritius in the tough times, describing it as 'a time-tested and enduring partnership'."Mauritius arms itself with COVAXIN, India's indigenously developed vaccine, in its fight against COVID19. India stands strong with Mauritius in these tough times. Consignment to arrive tomorrow. A time-tested and enduring partnership," tweeted India in Mauritius.The Indian High Commission in Mauritius also said that Covaxin is effective against the UK variant and other heterologous strains."Developed & manufactured by @BharatBiotech, COVAXIN has demonstrated 81% interim efficacy in preventing COVID19. COVAXIN is effective against UK variant strain & other heterologous strains. EUA received in 8 countries till date, 20 more to follow," it said
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday called on Mauritius President Prithvirajsing Roopun during which the two leaders discussed the "super special" bilateral relationship. Jaishankar, who arrived here in India's strategically key maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean region on Sunday night from the Maldives on the last leg of his two-nation tour, met the president after concluding talks with Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and Foreign Minister Alan Ganoo. "Thank President Prithvirajsing Roopun for receiving me. Warm discussion on our super special' relationship.
