A low pressure over the Bay of Bengal developed today which is likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall coupled with gusty surface wind in the next 24 hours, the Met department said today. Under the influence of upper air cyclonic circulation, a low pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood, the weatherman said. Under its impact, rain and thundershower are likely to occur in most areas in Odisha. Similarly, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to take place in some areas with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in northern districts, while heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in south Odisha in the next 24 hours. Kerala's Kannur airport to be operational in Sept 2018

The Kannur International airport coming up at Mattanur in the northern part of the state would be ready for operation in September 2018, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said today. Addressing the 8th general body meeting of the Kannur International Airport Ltd here, Vijayan said good progress has been made in the work of the airport, the fourth in the state. International and domestic airline firms have expressed interest to operate from the airport, he said. The Civil Aviation Ministry has accorded permission for Jet Airways to conduct a service to Abu Dhabi and Goair to Dammam, he said. It has also decided to expand the length of runway to 4000 metres from 3050 metres and steps for acquiring land for the same was progressing, the chief minister said. Inspired by Ranveer Singh-starrer 'Ladies vs Ricky Behl', a 34-year-old man duped several women over the last six years on the pretext of marrying them and would later blackmail them with intimate videos. Yogesh alias Sameer Garg conned close to 15 women of more than Rs 50 lakh in the last year alone, police said. He was arrested on September 5 from the New Delhi railway station while trying to flee. Police said he mostly targeted single women in their late 30s who had registered themselves on matrimonial sites.
