Housing sales and new supply increased 22 per cent and 86 per cent, respectively, during January-March this year on better demand, according to residential brokerage firm PropTiger.com. REA India, a full-stack real estate technology platform, owns Housing.com, PropTiger.com and Makaan.com. In its report titled Real Insight Residential - January-March 2023, PropTiger.com said that housing sales rose to 85,850 units across eight cities in January-March 2023 from 70,630 units in the year-ago period. New launches grew 86 per cent to 1,47,780 units -- highest in a quarter -- from 79,530 units. Reports of other property consultants have also reported an increase in housing sales during the January-March quarter despite a rise in mortgage rates in the last one year. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday said if the Union government did not conduct a survey of eligible beneficiaries for a housing scheme, the state government will carry it out itself. Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks on the Governor's address in the Legislative Assembly, Baghel said his government was committed to provide pucca houses to all eligible beneficiaries. The motion of thanks was passed after discussion. The last Census took place in 2011 and it was necessary to collect information about the changes in the lives of common citizens so that eligible beneficiaries could get the benefit of welfare schemes, the chief minister said. The Andhra Pradesh Government will be releasing around Rs 6,500 crore to beneficiaries in the third phase of YSR Asara Scheme next month, an official release said on Friday. Under the scheme, outstanding loans of Self Help Groups (SHGs) up to 2019 will be waived by the state government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 3,024 newly constructed Economically Weaker Section flats in Delhi as part of an in-situ slum rehabilitation project on Wednesday evening, his office has said. During the programme at Vigyan Bhawan here, the slum dwellers at Bhoomihin camp will also be handed over keys to the flats, thereby giving them the ownership and a sense of security, a PMO statement said. The in-situ slum rehabilitation in 376 Jhuggi Jhopri clusters is being undertaken by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in line with the prime minister's vision to provide housing for all, it said. "The objective of the rehabilitation project is to provide a better and healthy living environment to the residents of Jhuggi Jhopri clusters, with proper amenities and facilities," the statement added.
