Honda WR-V

Japanese carmaker Honda plans to discontinue its three models -- Jazz, WR-V and fourth generation City -- in India by March next year, according to industry sources. The company, which is present in the country through a wholly-owned subsidiary Honda Cars India, will be left with only three models in its line up -- City Hybrid, fifth generation City and entry-level sedan Amaze -- after it discontinues the three brands. In December 2020, the company had stopped the production of Civic and CR-V with the closure of its Greater Noida plant as it struggled to strengthen foothold in the Indian market. Sources said the three models were being phased out as the company prepares to launch SUV models in the market. When contacted over the issue, a Honda Cars India spokesperson said: "The company cannot comment on the market speculations." Honda Cars India today commenced pre-bookings for its upcoming model WR-V which it plans to launch in the country this month. The company will launch the vehicle on March 16 and has initiated pre-bookings for the upcoming model at its dealerships for an amount of Rs 21,000. "The WR-V is an all new sporty lifestyle vehicle in Honda's line-up. It will provide joy for recreational usage and comfortable driving for daily use in the city," Honda Cars India President and CEO Yoichiro Ueno said in a statement. India is the first country to manufacture and launch the Honda WR-V in the world. It is the first model developed by Honda R&D India in association with Honda R&D Co, Ltd, Japan. The company has developed the model as a Sporty Lifestyle Vehicle for the Indian consumers who want sporty and stylish vehicles that are compact in size with premium interiors and advanced features.
