Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday inaugurated the Ashram flyover extension that would bring a huge relief for people commuting between Delhi and Noida. PWD engineer-in-chief Anant Kumar said that for now, light vehicles will be allowed on the extended flyover. "Woes of people have ended, those coming from Noida can reach AIIMS (hospital) sooner after Ashram flyover extension opening," Kejriwal said. He also criticised the tardy pace of work during previous years, saying 27 flyovers have been built under the rule of his Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi but only 84 flyovers were built in the last 65 years. Vehicular movement will be affected on the Ring Road between Rajouri Garden and Punjabi Bagh in Delhi for around 11 months due to construction of an elevated road, police said on Thursday. The Delhi Police issued the traffic advisory, asking people to avoid these stretches. "Traffic will remain affected on Ring Road in both the carriageways from Rajouri Garden towards Punjabi Bagh & vice-versa for approx. 11 months," it tweeted. It is due to construction of an elevated road from New Moti Nagar flyover to the ESI Hospital, it added.
The Ashram flyover extension work will be completed by November, providing relief to lakhs of people commuting between Noida and Delhi, according to an official statement. The six-lane flyover will end traffic bottlenecks at Ashram Chowk, a major intersection. According to PWD officials, the earlier deadline to built the flyover was September this year. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday conducted a site inspection to check the progress of the construction and instructed officials to install additional machinery to expedite the work. "It was a herculean task to build a flyover in the middle of such a busy Ring Road but the PWD engineers undertook this daunting challenge and delivered.
