FedEx will combine almost all of its ground, air and other operations by next year as part of a USD 4 billion cost cutting plan. The package delivery company said Wednesday that FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Services and other FedEx operating companies will be rolled into a single entity by June 2024 in a companywide reorganisation. FedEx Freight, the company's freight transportation services division, will continue as a stand-alone company within Federal Express Corp. Raj Subramaniam will serve as president and CEO of the combined organisation. John Smith will become president and CEO of US and Canada ground operations at FedEx Express and assume leadership of surface operations across the FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, and FedEx Freight businesses. Richard Smith will serve as president and CEO, airline and international at FedEx Express, overseeing all other regions and FedEx Logistics. State-owned India Post has partnered with logistics aggregator Shiprocket to enhance its last-mile delivery services for various e-commerce products, an official statement said on Friday. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between India Post, Shiprocket and Pickrr at Dak Bhawan here. Under the collaboration, India Post has ensured IT integration with IT systems of Shiprocket. This integration has been done through various application programming interface (API) for tariff, booking, label generation, pickup and track & trace systems.

A new consumer survey shows strong support from Delhi consumers for the proposed aggregator scheme of the city government which requires a time-bound transition to electric vehicles by last-mile delivery and e-commerce companies. The proposed scheme sets an April 30, 2030 deadline for the complete transition of Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) to electric vehicles (EV) among e-commerce, delivery and transport logistics service providers. Commissioned by the Sustainable Mobility Network and conducted by CMSR Consultants, the survey shows that 80 per cent of the 1,508 respondents in Delhi attributed last-mile delivery vehicles as one of the reasons for rising air pollution in the city. According to the survey, 95.2 per cent of the respondents agreed that a switch to EVs by delivery companies is important for addressing air pollution issues and mitigating climate change. Business-to-business commerce player Peel Works is probably the first firm that is planning to replace its entire fleet of fossil fuel-based delivery vehicles with electric ones and procure 100 EVs in the first phase. Peel Works, a Mumbai-headquartered B2B (business-to-business) grocery e-commerce company, is in talks with Piaggio, Tata Motors, Mahindra and Greaves for procuring 100 EVs (electric vehicles) for its distribution business. It operates the retail management platform, Taikee, and Manpower, Payroll management and Logistics as service platform 1SF. "We have plans to shift entirely to EVs (electric vehicles). As of now, in the first phase, we are planning to take 100 EVs ahead of this festival season. If it went well then we will go for more EVs deployment," the company's co-founder and supply chain Head, Lt Col Pushkar Raj (Retd) told PTI. Logistics firm Delhivery on Friday announced its plans to hire over 75,000 staff for seasonal jobs over the next one-and-a-half month and expand its parcel sortation capacity by 1.5 million shipments per day. Of these, over 10,000 people will be off-roll employees across Delhivery's gateways, warehouses, and last-mile delivery, the company said. The hiring is aimed at meeting the expected higher volumes in both parcels and express part-truck load business during the festive season, it added. The company's fully-automated mega gateway, which is equipped with the automated parcel and hub sortation at Tauru became operational in April this year.
