Over 1,100 dengue cases have been reported in the national capital in the first three-and-a-half weeks of November, taking the infection tally of the vector-borne disease to more than 3,300 so far this year, according to a civic report issued on Monday. In October, 1,238 cases were logged. The dengue infection tally stood at 3,044 till November 18, and 279 more cases have been recorded since then till November 25. The city has also recorded 230 cases of malaria and 44 cases of chikungunya this year, according to the report released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Seventy new dengue cases were detected in Assam, taking the tally to 796, according to data issued on Saturday. Karbi Anglong continued to be the worst- hit as the district reported 55 new cases, said the National Health Mission, Assam. Eight new cases were reported in Kamrup Metropolitan, while Bongaigaon and Jorhat accounted for two each. Cachar, Dima Hasao and Tinsukia reported one case each. All schools and colleges in Diphu in Assam's Karbi Anglong district were asked to remain shut next week due to dengue outbreak in the city, an order said on Sunday. In the last five days, 270 cases of dengue were detected in the Karbi Anglong district, it said. Preventive measures have been initiated against the "impending epidemic", the order said, announcing the closure of all educational institutions in Diphu Municipal Board and Greater Diphu Town areas from Monday to Saturday. A National Health Mission (NHM) statement said that of the 285 dengue cases detected in the state between November 1 and 5, 271 were from the Karbi Anglong district. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials to increase surveillance to control the spread of dengue cases. Adityanath held a meeting on dengue prevention at his residence, a government spokesperson said in a statement. The chief minister directed officials to take steps to effectively control the spread of dengue. He also ordered nodal officers to make field visits to review the steps taken for dengue prevention. He also directed municipal corporations and local bodies to undertake special fogging campaigns. Asking doctors to work on a mission mode to provide treatment, Adityanath also directed them to ensure availability of medicines.

A private hospital here has been sealed for allegedly transfusing fruit juice instead of blood platelets to a dengue patient who later died, police said. After a video of the alleged incident went viral on social media, the district administration swung into action and the hospital was sealed on Thursday on the direction of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. The patient, Pradeep Pandey, was shifted to another hospital, where he died after his condition deteriorated, officials said. However, no FIR has been registered at the local police station. The Union Health Ministry has deputed a high-level multi-disciplinary team to Uttar Pradesh to collaborate with the state authorities in instituting public health measures for dengue management in Firozabad, Agra and Etawah districts. The six-member team comprises experts drawn from the National Centre for Disease Control, National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital Hospital, New Delhi, according to a statement. The team is headed by Dr V K Chaudhary, Sr RD, Regional Office of Health and Family Welfare, Lucknow.
