In a veiled attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent remarks in London, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said when India's dominance on global platforms is growing, some people are criticising the country on foreign land. Those who are criticising Indian democracy today are the same people who left no stone unturned to strangle democracy itself when they were given a chance, Adityanath said without taking any name. Addressing an event in Gorakhpur, he added that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making the country famous in the world, some people are "trying to defame" the country. The Mumbai Police have arrested actor and film critic Kamal Rashid Khan, popularly known as KRK, in connection with an alleged defamatory tweet posted by him, an official said on Tuesday. Khan was nabbed from the Mumbai airport late Monday night after he arrived from Dubai, the official from Malad police station said. The police did not reveal details of the tweet. The official said a look out circular had earlier been issued against him. An FIR was also registered against him in 2020 under various Indian Penal Code sections including 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 500 (punishment for defamation), and provisions of the Information Technology Act, he said. The city police came to know about his arrival on Monday and immediately arrested him, the official said. In 2016, Khan had claimed that he was paid to tweet in favour of a movie of filmmaker Karan Johar.
A magistrate court here on Thursday directed Arthur Jail authorities to produce Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut before it through video conferencing in connection with a defamation complaint filed by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya's wife Medha Somaiya. Raut was lodged at the Arthur Road jail in Mumbai following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. The Sewri metropolitan magistrate, hearing the defamation case filed by the BJP leader's wife, asked the jail authorities to produce Raut before the court at 12 noon on Thursday, her lawyer Vivekanand Gupta said. Medha Somaiya in her complaint alleged that Raut had made baseless and completely defamatory allegations against her and her husband, accusing them of being involved in a scam worth Rs 100 crore over the construction and maintenance of some public toilets under the jurisdiction of the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation in Thane.
