VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd on Monday reported a 17.3 per cent growth in total sales at 7,221 units in December 2022. The company, a joint venture of the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, had sold 6,154 units in December 2021, VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) said in a statement. December 2022 sales included 7,003 units of Eicher brand and 218 units of Volvo brand, it added. In the domestic commercial vehicles market, Eicher branded trucks and buses recorded sales of 6,671 units last month as compared to 5,192 units in December 2021, a growth of 28.5 per cent. Exports of Eicher branded trucks and buses, however, declined 59 per cent at 332 units, as compared to 810 units in December 2021, it added.
Domestic commercial-vehicle (CV) sales volume will witness significant growth over the next few years and the overall CV volume is likely to reach close to 1-million units by FY24, a report said on Wednesday. The report by credit ratings agency Fitch Ratings also expects growing demand and the resultant rise in operating leverage to boost the profitability of the domestic CV-focused original equipment manufacturers after FY22, despite elevated production costs. A recovery in medium and heavy CVs from multi-year lows, along with sustained growth in light CV categories, will help overall CV volume to reach close to 1-million units by FY24 the level of the last cyclical peak recorded in FY19, it said. According to Fitch, domestic CV sales volume are expected to grow in the mid-to high-teens over the next few years. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Thursday said it has sold a total of 40,403 units in March. The company had dispatched 6,679 units in March 2020 amid sales disruptions due to COVID-19 pandemic. The Mumbai-based automaker sold 16,700 passenger vehicles last month in the domestic market. It had dispatched 3,383 units in March 2020. It sold 21,577 commercial vehicles in the domestic market last month. The company had dispatched just 2,742 units in March 2020 due to coronavirus-led lockdown. "At Mahindra we are witnessing very good momentum in demand and have a strong pipeline of bookings across our SUV range of Bolero, Scorpio, XUV300, All-New Thar and also the Bolero Pik-up," M&M Automotive Division CEO Veejay Nakra said in a statement. In fact Bolero volumes for March have been the highest in this financial year and despite supply constraints the company has been able to ramp up production of Bolero Pik-up significantly during the month, he added.
