The government on Tuesday said that bids for the sixth round of commercial coal mines' auction can be submitted till Friday. The bids will be opened on coming Monday in the presence of representatives of the bidders. The biggest tranche of 141 mines covering eleven coal-bearing states are being offered in the sixth round of commercial coal mine auction. "In accordance with the timelines, bidders can submit their bids online on the electronic platform by 12:00 hours up to January 13, 2023 and physically by 16:00 hours on the same day," the coal ministry said in a statement. The coal mines under the ongoing tranche have been selected considering the varied demands within the investor community; some of the coal mines have been resized based on the feedback of the industry to improve their attractiveness. The country needs a strong action plan to reskill coal mine workers in order to protect their interests while making a transition from conventional fuel to renewable energy usage, a report said on Thursday. India's power sector is one of the most diversified ones in the world. The country's thermal power generation by coal accounts for 62 per cent of its total generation capacity, a joint report of EY, SED Fund and FICCI said. It also noted that India has been consistently working at a global level to reduce emission intensity to attain its net-zero target for 2070. "For the transition from conventional to clean fuel-based energy generation, it will be imperative to protect the interests of coal mine workers through a holistic approach, and a strong skill action plan is needed to transition from coal to renewable energy," said the report titled as 'Skill action plan to fuel transition from coal to renewable energy in India'. One person died and seven others are missing following a coal and gas outburst in a coal mine in central China's Henan Province, local authorities said Saturday.The accident happened at around 5:50 pm on Friday at a coal mine operated by Hebi Coal and Electric Co., Ltd. in Hebi City, Henan, Xinhua reported.Search and rescue efforts are continuing, according to local authorities.
