Multiverse dramedy "Everything Everywhere All at Once" emerged as the big winner at the 95th Academy Awards, taking home the coveted best picture trophy along with awards for its star cast --Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Yeoh became the first Asian woman to win the best actress trophy, while Brendan Fraser returned to centre stage with his best actor award for his role as an overweight reclusive professor in "The Whale". Filmmaking duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, known as the Daniels, won for both directing and original screenplay for "Everything Everywhere All at Once". "Naatu Naatu", the peppy, foot-tapping chartbuster from SS Rajamouli's Telugu blockbuster "RRR", created history by becoming the first Indian track to win the Academy Award in the best original song category.

Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis all won acting honours while the filmmaking duo known as the Daniels, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert won for both directing and original screenplay. Yeoh became the first Asian woman to best actress, taking the award for her lauded performance in "Everything Everywhere All at Once". The 60-year-old Malaysian-born Yeoh won her first Oscar for a performance that relied as much on her comic and dramatic chops as it did her kung fu skills. Tamil documentary The Elephant Whisperers emerged as the winner at the 95th Academy Awards making it a maiden victory for India in the Documentary Short Subject category. Directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, the Netflix documentary bested Haulout, How Do You Measure a Year?, The Martha Mitchell Effect and Stranger at the Gate to scoop the trophy. The Elephant Whisperers" depicts an unbreakable bond between two abandoned elephants and their caretakers. It is produced by Guneet Monga and Achin Jain of Sikhya Entertainment. Earlier, two entries were set in India - "Smile Pinki" and "Period. End Of Sentence", won Oscars for Documentary Short. Monga was the executive producer on Period.

Indian climate change documentary "All That Breathes" could not register a win at the 95th edition of the Academy Awards, losing out to Daniel Roher's "Navalny". The Shaunak Sen-directorial was nominated in the segment alongside All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, Fire of Love, and A House Made of Splinters. "Navalny" is a documentary film that revolves around Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and events related to his poisoning. The award was presented to the team of the American production by actor Riz Ahmed and musician Questlove. "All That Breathes" is a Delhi-set documentary which follows two siblings, Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad, who have devoted their lives to rescuing and treating injured birds, especially black kites. The critically-acclaimed film previously won the 'World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Documentary' at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and the Golden Eye award for the best documentary at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
