The Delhi government will launch the "Red Light on Gaadi off" campaign again to curb vehicular pollution from October 28, Environment Minister Gopal Rai said on Friday. Under the campaign, first launched on October 16, 2020, to cut down vehicular pollution in the national capital, drivers are encouraged to switch off their vehicles while waiting for the traffic light to turn green. At a press conference, Rai said experts are of the view that pollution levels may increase in Delhi after Diwali if the wind direction changes. "The Delhi government is on alert. Political strategist Prashant Kishor began a 3,500-kilometre long padayatra' from the Gandhi Ashram in Bihar's West Champaran district on Sunday, the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, as part of his Jan Suraj' campaign. The march is widely seen as a precursor to his entry into politics. Kishor and his supporters will attempt to reach every panchayat and block of Bihar during the yatra which is likely to take anywhere between 12 and 15 months to complete. He started the march from Bhitiharwa Gandhi Ashram, from where Mahatma Gandhi launched his first Satyagraha movement in 1917. Union Minister Jitendra Singh will launch a special campaign here on Sunday focussing on cleanliness and reducing pendency in government offices, according to an official statement. Until now, more than 67,000 sites have been identified by ministries/departments of Government of India for conducting the cleanliness campaigns, the statement issued on Saturday said. Around 21 lakh physical files and 3 lakh e-files are due for review during the campaign. For the first time this year, the campaign will also focus on e-files and their review, it said. The campaign 2022 reinforces importance of timely disposal of references and a clean work space. This is expected to cover a number of post offices, overseas mission/posts, railway stations, and other public offices in mission mode during the month-long campaign, it said.
