Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday alleged that the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) and Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train projects got delayed due to an "unethical" government in Maharashtra. He was referring to the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi or MVA coalition government which had Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party and Congress as its main constituents. The DFC project picked up pace after the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power at the Centre in 2014, Goyal said. "Had a party (Shiv Sena) in Maharashtra not betrayed us and formed a totally unethical government, three years may not have been wasted. Even the Bullet Train project would have progressed rapidly. That government wasted our three years. They did not let the project (DFC) move forward," said the BJP leader, addressing a gathering of professionals here. Survey work is going on to start bullet train services here, Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday. The proposed alignment of the high-speed rail corridor will pass through Greater Noida, Agra, Lucknow, Prayagraj and Varanasi, he said. Speaking on the first bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, Vaishnaw said, "New things are being learnt through this (project). As this project develops, there will be more development. "More bullet train corridors will be built in the country. Survey work is going on in Varanasi to start a bullet train." Vaishnaw, who is visiting Varanasi, also inspected Kashi station and Rajghat bridge. Kashi station in Varanasi district will be developed at a cost of Rs 350 crore to boost economic activity. Its design should be done keeping in mind Kashi's religious and temple culture, Vaishnaw told reporters. The Maharashtra government on Tuesday told the Bombay High Court that Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Co Ltd had left no stone unturned to create unnecessary hurdles for acquisition of land, owned by the company, for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project. A division bench of Justices Nitin Jamdar and Sharmila Deshmukh was hearing a petition filed by Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Co Ltd challenging an order of September 15, 2022 passed by the state government awarding compensation to it for land acquisition for the project. The company, in their petition, sought that the high court direct the state government to not start the process of awarding compensation and initiate possession proceedings. The state government, in its affidavit filed by deputy collector (land acquisition) Jagatsing Girase, termed the company's allegations as frivolous, baseless, unwarranted and unsubstantiated. Infrastructure company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Friday said it has received an up to Rs 2,500-crore contract for Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor project. "The heavy civil infrastructure business of L&T Construction has secured a significant contract from two packages of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor," L&T said in a regulatory filing. The company did not provide value of the contracts but said the orders fall under "significant" category which range between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore as per its classification of contracts. The order is to procure, fabricate, assemble, paint and transport 28 bridges, the company added. L&T said the project was secured through a consortium of L&T and IHI Infrastructure Systems (IIS) of Japan. Shares of L&T were trading 0.56 per cent lower at Rs 1,337.45 apiece on BSE.
