Digital services company Jio Platforms on Thursday said it has signed an agreement with SOA University to set up a 5G lab in Bhubaneswar. The proposed lab will help in meeting the growing requirements of research and training in the latest 5G standards, including 5G standalone (SA), Jio Platforms said in a statement. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) also includes facilitation for the development of use-cases on the 5G platform as well as other associated technology domains such as Beyond 5G (B5G) and optical fiber, it added. Jio Platforms is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL).

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday said the state is now "fast emerging as a technology resource hub" of the country and creating jobs for youths. During the inauguration of Happiest Minds IT development centre here, he stated that the new facility will further strengthen the state's position in the sector. Patnaik claimed that the state has been taking giant strides in the IT sector in recent years and the growth momentum is "accelerating". "Odisha is now fast emerging as a technology resource hub of India and creating jobs for youths," he said. The centre at Fortune Towers here will accommodate more than 1,000 people and the company is looking to expand its capacity to serve global clients abroad. A large number of Buddhist monks from across the globe participated in a march in Bhubaneswar on Thursday as part of the golden jubilee celebration of the Peace Pagoda at Dhauli. Spreading Lord Buddha's messages, the monks walked from Special Circuit House to AG Square, from where they were taken in a bus to Dhauli Junction. From Dhauli Junction, they again walked to the Peace Pagoda, which is located 8 km south of Bhubaneswar. The monks came from the US, Japan, Ukraine and Sri Lanka, among other countries, to participate in the two-day celebration of the golden jubilee of the Shanti Stupa, an official said. On Friday, rituals and a mass peace prayer will be held. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to attend the functions.
Senior Congress leader and first chairperson of National Commission for Women Jayanti Patnaik died here on Wednesday. She was 90. Jayanti Patnaik, a four-time MP and wife of late Odisha chief minister J B Patnaik, was declared dead by doctors at a hospital here, her son Pritiv Ballav Patnaik said.
