GE Aerospace and Tata Advanced Systems Ltd have extended their long term contract worth USD 1 billion for production and supply of several commercial aircraft engine components. The engine parts will be manufactured at the Tata Centre of Excellence for Aero Engines (Tata-TCoE). In a joint release on Friday, GE Aerospace and Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) said they have extended the manufacturing agreement under which TASL will continue to produce and supply several commercial aircraft engine components to GE's global engine manufacturing factories. "The multi-year long term contract is valued over USD 1 billion and showcases the growing relationship between GE and TASL in the aerospace industry," the release said. The contract was first signed in late 2017. Tata-TCoE was established in 2018 to manufacture CFM International LEAP engine components in India. Two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp on Wednesday announced its plans to enter the Philippines for which it has partnered with Terrafirma Motors Corporation for assembly and distribution of its vehicles. A part of the Columbian Group of Companies, Terrafirma Motors Corporation (TMC) will be the exclusive assembler and distributor of Hero MotoCorp motorcycles in the Philippines, the company said in a regulatory filing. TMC will set up an assembly facility of 29,000 square metres in its existing principal manufacturing facility situated in Laguna City and will start its operations in the second half of fiscal year 2024, it added. "In keeping with our R4 (recalibrate, revitalise, revolutionise and revive) strategy, we are always keenly exploring new opportunities in global markets. Leading carmakers Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Toyota and Honda witnessed a drop in vehicle dispatches to dealers last month as the global semiconductor shortage continued to impact production. Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Skoda and MG Motor, on the other hand, reported an increase in wholesales in February as compared to the same month last year. The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said its domestic sales slipped 8.46 per cent to 1,40,035 units as against 1,52,983 units in February 2021. "The shortage of electronic components had a minor impact on the production of vehicles which are primarily sold in the domestic market. The company took all possible measures to minimise the impact," the auto major noted. Sales of the company's mini cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, fell 17.81 per cent to 19,691 units last month as compared to 23,959 in the same month last year. Similarly, dispatch of compact models like Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire dipped 3.38

French tyre major Michelin on Wednesday said it has joined hands with Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to encourage knowledge sharing, enhance general awareness of the transportation industry and to drive forward collaborations in automobile technology projects in India. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked between the two entities also entails several areas of collaboration related to the development of the automobile industry in India, such as training on vehicle dynamics, tyre technologies and exploring future stakes in standardisation and regulation, among others. Automobile component major Sona group has hired a head of technology in order to help it negotiate changes the advent of electric vehicles would bring to its business. "The component industry will go through a major disruption. We need to be prepared before it hits us," says Chief Executive Officer Sunjay Kapur.The $30-billion Indian automobile component industry is in the throes of disruption, as vehicles powered by the internal combustion engine are replaced by battery-operated electric vehicles. As much as 60 per cent of the industry's revenue, which now comes from fuel engines and drive trains, would be replaced by the battery and the motor.
