Bajaj Auto Ltd on Wednesday reported 2 per cent decline in total sales at 2,91,567 units in March as against 2,97,188 in the same month last year. Total domestic sales grew 47 per cent at 1,86,522 units last month from 1,26,752 in March 2022, Bajaj Auto said in a statement. Exports stood at 1,05,045 units as compared to 1,70,436 units in the year-ago month, down 38 per cent. Overall two-wheeler sales were at 2,47,002 units as against 2,56,324 units in the same month a year ago, down 4 per cent, the company said. Commercial vehicles sales were up 9 per cent at 44,565 units last month, compared to 40,864 units in March 2022. Bajaj Auto said, in fiscal year 2022-23, its total sales declined 9 per cent to 39,27,857 units from 43,08,433 units in 2021-22.

Driven by strong demand, the overall passenger vehicle dispatches crossed 3.35 lakh units in February as automakers, including Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, reported robust sales during the month. The dispatches of more than 3.35 lakh units last month marked an 11 per cent over February 2022. It was also the highest ever overall wholesales in the month of February. The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India on Wednesday said its domestic wholesales rose 11 per cent to 1,55,114 units in February as compared with 1,40,035 units in the same month last year. The sales of mini segment cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, grew to 21,875 units as against 19,691 units in February 2022. According to the automaker, the sales of compact cars, including Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S and WagonR, rose to 79,898 units in February as compared with 77,795 units in the year-ago month. Italian automaker Automobili Lamborghini is looking to cross the century mark in sales in the Indian market this year on the back of a record showing in 2022, according to the company's country head Sharad Agarwal. The company, which sells a range of super luxury cars with prices starting from Rs 3.8 crore in India, is also bringing to the country this year its first hybrid car after it makes its global debut in the first quarter of 2023. Lamborghini posted record sales in India in 2022 at 92 units, growing at 33 per cent from the previous year. Its previous best-ever sales in the country was in 2021 with 69 units. Before that, its best sales was in 2019 when it had sold a total of 52 units. "Yes, that's going to be our direction. This is the question which has been coming for some time. Nissan Motor India on Thursday said its total wholesales rose by 20 per cent on a year-on-year basis to 6,746 units last month, aided by increase in exports. The automaker had dispatched 5,605 units in November 2021. The company saw a dip in domestic sales with 2,400 units last month, as against 2,651 units in November 2021. Exports increased to 4,346 units last month, from 2,954 units in the year-ago period. "Booking fulfilments have continued into November after the festive season, indicating that demand is benefiting from several positive indicators, such as improvement in economic activities and confident consumer sentiments. "Going ahead, stable demand from tier-I and tier-II cities is expected," Nissan Motor India Managing Director Rakesh Srivastava said in a statement.

Skoda Auto India on Thursday reported two-fold increase in sales for November 2022 at 4,433 units. The company had sold 2,196 units in the same month last year. "We have doubled our annual sales this year, over 2021, with a big month of December still to go," Skoda Auto India Brand Director Petr Solc said in a statement. Cumulatively, from January to November 2022, the automaker sold 48,933 units, which is more than double of the 23,858 cars sold in 2021.

Robust festive demand coupled with better production due to easing of semiconductor supplies helped the domestic passenger vehicle industry post its best-ever monthly sales performance in September. The industry volumes in September stood at 3,55, 946 units, registering an year-on-year increase of 91 per cent, enabling the second quarter sales to cross the 10-lakh sales mark. Leading automakers Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata Motors were able to improve their dispatches to dealers last month on the back of improved production with the easing of chip shortage situation.
